अन्यानि दिव्यनामानि पुराणोक्तानि संस्मर
Recall also the other divine names as spoken of in the ancient texts.
प्रदक्षिणप्रियो यस्मादहं शोणाचलाकृतिः अविमुंचन्निहावासं कृतवानहमद्रिजे
Because I am fond of circumambulation and have the form of the Śoṇa mountain, I have made this place my abode, O daughter of the mountain, without ever leaving it.
प्रदक्षिणस्य माहात्म्यं ब्रूहि मे शोणभूभृतः
Tell me, O lord of the Śoṇa mountain, the greatness of circumambulation.
कस्मिन्काले कथं कार्यं कैर्वा पूर्वं प्रदक्षिणम्
At what time, in what manner, and by whom should circumambulation be performed, as it was done in the past?
श्रूयतां देवि माहात्म्यमादिशन्मे महेश्वरः ।। 1.3.1.9.
Listen, O goddess, to the greatness as instructed to me by Maheśvara.
परितो मां सुराः सर्वे वर्तंते मुनिभिः सह
All the gods, together with the sages, are gathered around me on all sides.
यानि कानि च पापानि जन्मांतरकृतानि च
Whatever sins there are, even those committed in previous births,
अश्वमेधसहस्राणि वाजपेयायुतानि च
Thousands of Aśvamedha sacrifices and tens of thousands of Vājapeya sacrifices,
अपि प्रहीणस्य समस्तलक्षणैः क्रियाविहीनस्य निकृष्टजन्मनः
Even for one who is deprived of all marks, devoid of ritual acts, and of low birth,
समस्त तीर्थाभिगमेषु पुण्यं समस्तयज्ञागमधर्मजातम्
The merit from visiting all holy places, from all sacrifices, and from all righteous acts,
पदेनैकेन भूलोकं द्वितीयेनांतरिक्षकम्
With one step, the earthly world is traversed; with the second, the mid-space.
एकेन मानसं पापं द्वितीयेन तु वाचिकम्
With one step, mental sin is removed; with the second, verbal sin.
पातकानि च सर्वाणि पदेनैकेन मार्जयेत्
All sins are wiped away with a single step.
पर्णशाला महर्षीणां सिद्धानां च सहस्रशः 1.3.1.9.
There are thousands of hermitages of great sages and perfected beings here.
अत्र सिद्धः पुनर्नित्यं वसाम्यग्रे सुरार्चितः
Here I dwell eternally, perfected, at the forefront, worshipped by the gods.
अग्निस्तंभमयं रूपमरुणादिरिति श्रुतम्
It is heard that the form here is made of a pillar of fire, beginning with red.
अष्टमूर्तिमयं लिंगमिदं यैस्तैजसं भृशम्
This liṅga is composed of eight forms, intensely radiant and made of light.
न पुनः संभवस्तस्य यः करोति प्रदक्षिणाम्
There is no rebirth for the one who performs circumambulation of it.
अस्य पादरजःस्पर्शात्पूयते सकला मही
By the touch of the dust from his feet, the entire earth is purified.
नमस्कुर्वन्प्रतिदिशं ध्यायन्स्तौति कृतांजलिः
He bows in every direction, meditates, and praises with joined palms.
आसन्नप्रसवा नारी यथा गच्छेदनाकुलम्
Just as a woman near childbirth walks without distress,
स्नातो विशुद्धवेषः सन्भस्मरुद्राक्षभूषितः
Having bathed, wearing pure garments, adorned with ash and rudrākṣa beads,
मनूनां चरतामग्रे देवानां च सहस्रशः
While the Manus and thousands of gods proceed ahead,
संघट्टमतिसंमर्दं मार्गरोधं विचिंतयन् 1.3.1.9.
He considers the crowds, the great throng, and the obstruction of the path.
अथवा शिवनामानि संकीर्त्य वरगीतिभिः
Or, reciting the names of Shiva with excellent songs,
माहात्म्यं मम वा शृण्वन्ननन्यमतिरादरात्
Or listening with undistracted mind and reverence to my greatness,
दानैश्च विविधैः पुण्यैरुपकारैस्तथार्थिनाम्
And by various meritorious gifts and acts of kindness to those in need,
कृते त्वग्निमयं लिंगं त्रेतायां मणिपर्वतम्
In the Kṛta age, the liṅga was of fire; in the Tretā, of jewel-mountain.
अथवा स्फाटिकं रूपमरुणं तु स्वयंप्रभम्
Or else, its form is crystal, or red, self-luminous.
अवाङ्मनसगम्यत्वादप्रमेयतया स्वयम्
Because it is beyond the reach of speech and mind, and immeasurable by nature,
