इत्थमेतद्व्रतं राजंश्चिकीर्षामि त्वया सह
Thus, O king, I wish to undertake this vow together with you.
इति भूपालवर्येण श्रुत्वा संहृष्टचेतसा
Having heard this from the distinguished king, with a heart filled with joy—
तयाथ प्रार्थिता गौरी गर्भिण्या भक्तितोषिता 4.2.83.
Thus, when requested by her, Gaurī, pleased by the devotion of the pregnant woman, granted her wish.
जातमात्रो व्रजेत्स्वर्गं पुनगयाति चात्र वै
As soon as he is born, he will go to heaven, and then return here again.
विनैव स्तन्यपानेन षोडशाब्दाकृतिः क्षणात्
Without even drinking milk, in an instant he will assume the form of a sixteen-year-old.
मृडान्यापि तथेत्युक्ता राज्ञी भक्त्यातितुष्टया
By Mṛḍānī's assent, spoken thus, the queen was greatly satisfied through devotion.
हितैरमात्यैरथ सा विज्ञप्तारिष्टसंस्थिता
Then, as she was afflicted by misfortune, she was advised by her well-meaning ministers.
सा मंत्रिवाक्यमाकर्ण्य केवलं पतिदेवता
Hearing the words of her ministers, she regarded only her husband as her deity.
धात्रेयिकां समाकार्य प्राहेदं सा नृपांगना
Summoning the nurse, the royal lady spoke these words to her.
तदग्रे स्थापयित्वामुं बालं धात्रेयिके वद
Placing the child before her, she said to the nurse:
राज्ञ्या पत्युः प्रियेषिण्या मंत्रिविज्ञप्तिनुन्नया
By the queen, devoted to her husband and persuaded by the ministers' advice,
विकटायाः पुरः स्थाप्य गृहं धात्रेयिका गता
The nurse, placing the child before Vikaṭā, went to her house.
उवाच नयत क्षिप्रं शिशुं मातृगणाग्रतः 4.2.83.
She said, 'Quickly take the child before the assembly of mothers.'
योगिन्यो विकटावाक्यात्खेचर्यस्ताः क्षणेन तम्
The yoginīs, at Vikaṭā's command, those who move in the sky, in a moment,
प्रणम्य योगिनीवृंदं तं शिशुं सूर्यवर्चसम्
After bowing to the group of yoginīs, that child, radiant like the sun,
ब्रह्माणी वैष्णवी रौद्री वाराही नारसिंहिका ।। कौमारी चापि माहेंद्री चामुंडा चैव चंडिका
Brahmāṇī, Vaiṣṇavī, Raudrī, Vārāhī, Nārasiṃhikā, Kaumārī, Māheṃdrī, Caṇḍikā, and Cāmuṇḍā,
दृष्ट्वा तं बालकं रम्यं विकटाप्रेषितं ततः
Seeing that beautiful boy, sent by Vikaṭā,
मातृभिश्चेति पुष्टः स यदा किंचिन्न वक्ति च
Nourished by the Mothers, though he does not speak at all,
राज्ययोग्यो भवत्येष महालक्षणलक्षितः
He is fit for kingship, marked by great auspicious signs.
पंचमुद्रा महादेवी तिष्ठते यत्र काम्यदा । यस्याः संसेवनान्नृणां निर्वाणश्रीरदूरतः
The great goddess of the five seals abides where wishes are granted; by her service, the wealth of liberation is not far from men.
सर्वत्रशुभजन्मिन्यां काश्यां मुक्तिः पदेपदे
In Kashi, where auspiciousness is born everywhere, liberation is attained at every step.
तत्पीठसेवनादस्य षोडशाब्दाकृतेः शिशोः
By serving that sacred seat, even a child of sixteen years attains its benefit.
एवं मातृगणाशीर्भिर्योगिनीभिः क्षणेन हि 4.2.83.
Thus, by the blessings of the groups of Mothers, and by the Yoginis, in a moment—
संप्राप्य तन्महापीठं स्वर्गलोकादिहागतः
Having reached that great seat, one who has come here from the heavenly worlds—
तपसातीव तीव्रेण निश्चलेंद्रियचेतसः ।। तस्य राजकुमारस्य प्रसन्नोभूदुमाधवः
Through exceedingly intense austerity, with unwavering senses and mind, Madhava became pleased with that prince.
आविर्बभूव पुरतो लिंगरूपेण शंकरः
Shankara appeared before him in the form of a linga.
सप्तपातालमुद्भिद्य स्थितं बृहदनुग्रहात
Bursting forth from the seven netherworlds, it stood there by the great favor.
प्रणम्य दंडवद्भूमौ परितुष्टाव धूर्जटिम्
Having prostrated himself on the ground, he joyfully praised Dhurjati.
ततः प्रसन्नो भगवान्देवदेवो महेश्वरः
Then the blessed Lord, the God of gods, Maheshvara, was pleased.
त्वयेदं बालवपुषा वशीकृतं मनो मम
By you, in this youthful form, my mind has been captivated.
