मणिमाणिक्यरत्नानामुच्छलच्चारुरोचिषाम्
The shining, beautiful radiance of jewels and precious stones rose up.
द्यावाभूम्योरंतरालं तथेति समवैम्यहम् 4.2.66.
Thus, I understand this as the space between heaven and earth.
अपि वैकुंठभुवने नेतरस्येह का कथा
Even in Vaikuntha, what need is there to speak of any other place here?
तावत्कार्पटिकः कश्चित्तल्लोचनपथं गतः
At that moment, a certain mendicant came into their sight.
स्वपुरोदंतमाख्याहि किमपूर्वमिहाध्वग
Tell us your own story, traveler—what new thing has happened here?
कोत्र संप्रत्यधिष्ठाता किमधिष्ठातृ चेष्टितम्
Where is the presiding lord now, and what actions has he performed?
सोपि कार्पटिकस्तस्य गिरिराजस्य भाषितम्
That mendicant then replied to the words of the king of mountains.
अहानि पंचषाण्येव व्यतिक्रांतानि मानद
O bestower of honor, five or six days have passed.
समायाते जगन्नाथे पर्वतेंद्र सुतापतौ
The Lord of the Universe, the mountain king, and the noble son have all arrived.
यो वै जगदधिष्ठाता सोधिष्ठातात्र सर्वगः
He who is the presiding lord of the world, the all-pervading ruler, is present here.
मन्ये दृषत्स्वरूपोसि दृषदोपि कठोरधीः
I think you possess a form of stone, and even among stones, you are of steadfast mind.
स्वभावकठिनात्मापि स वरं हिमवान्गिरिः 4.2.66.
Even with a naturally hard nature, Himavat, the mountain, is the best.
बिभ्रत्सहज काठिन्यं जातो गौरीगुरुर्गुरुः
Bearing innate hardness, he was born as the revered father of Gauri, the great teacher.
चेष्टितं तस्य को वेद वेदवेद्यस्य चेशितुः
Who can know the actions of him whose deeds are known through the Vedas and who is the master of all?
अधिष्ठाता मया ख्यातस्तथाधिष्ठातृ चेष्टितम्
The presiding lord has been revealed by me, and likewise his actions as ruler.
शुभे ज्येष्ठेश्वरस्थाने सांप्रतं स उमापतिः
O auspicious one, at present, Umāpati abides in the holy place of Jyeṣṭheśvara.
आविष्करोति पथिकोऽद्रींद्रो हृष्येत्तदातदा
When the king of mountains reveals himself to the traveler, he rejoices greatly.
उमानामामृतं पीतं येनेह जगतीतले
By whom the nectar of Uma’s name has been drunk here on the earth.
उमेतिद्व्यक्षरं मंत्रं योऽहर्निशमनुस्मरेत्
He who constantly remembers the two-syllable mantra 'Uma' day and night—
पुनः शुश्राव हिमवान्हृष्टः कार्पटिकोदितम् कार्पटिक उवाच राजन्विश्वेश्वरार्थेयः प्रासादो विश्वकर्मणा
Again Himavat, delighted, listened to the words spoken by the mendicant. The mendicant said: 'O king, the temple for Viśveśvara was built by Viśvakarman.'
निर्मीयते सुनिर्माणो जन्मि निर्वाणदायिनः
A creation is made, perfectly fashioned, by the birth-giver who grants liberation.
यत्रातिमित्रतेजोभिः शलाकाभिः समंततः 4.2.66.
There, with rays of immeasurable brilliance, rods are set all around.
यत्र संति शतं स्तंभा भास्वंतो द्वादशोत्तराः
There are a hundred pillars, shining, numbering one hundred and twelve.
चतुर्दशसु या शोभा विष्टपेषु समंततः
The splendor that is in the fourteen worlds is found there on every side.
चंद्रकांतमणीनां च स्तंभाधार शिलाश्च याः
And the stones that support the pillars are made of moonstone gems.
पद्मरागेंद्रनीलानां शालीनाः शालभंजिकाः
The halls and the statues of women are of ruby and sapphire.
स्फुरत्स्फटिकनिर्माण श्लक्ष्ण पद्मशिलातले
The smooth floors are made of shining crystal and lotus-stone.
आरक्तपीतमंजिष्ठ नीलकिर्मीरवर्णकैः
With hues of deep red, yellow, madder, and the color of blue lotus-fiber.
दृक्पिच्छिला विलोक्यंते माणिक्यस्तंभराजयः
The pillar-kings of jewels, with their glossy surfaces, are beheld like rubies.
रत्नाकरेभ्यः सर्वेभ्यो गणा रत्नोच्चयान्बहून्
From all the treasure-oceans, hosts bring forth many heaps of gems.
