नाममात्रस्मृतिकृतां त्रैलोक्यैश्वर्यपूरक
Fulfiller of the sovereignty of the three worlds for those who remember even Your name alone.
पशुपाशविमोक्षाय पशूनां पतये नमः 4.2.63.
To the liberator from the bonds of creatures, salutations to the Lord of all beings.
परात्पराय पाराय परापरपराय च
To the Supreme beyond the supreme, to the ultimate, and to the one who is both transcendent and immanent.
वामदेवाय वामार्धधारिणे वृषगामिने
To Vāmadeva, to the bearer of the left half, to the rider of the bull.
भवाय भवनाशाय भूतानांपतये नमः
To Bhava, to the destroyer of existence, salutations to the Lord of beings.
नमो मृडानीपतये नमो मृत्युंजयाय ते
Salutations to the Lord of Mṛḍānī, salutations to You, the conqueror of death.
यायजूकाय यज्ञाय यज्ञानां फलदायिने
To the one worthy of sacrifice, to the sacrifice itself, to the giver of the fruits of sacrifices.
शूलिने शाश्वतेशाय श्मशानावनिचारिणे
To the bearer of the spear, to the eternal Lord, to the wanderer in the cremation grounds.
हराय क्षांतिरूपाय क्षेत्रज्ञाय क्षमाकर
To Hara, the embodiment of forbearance, the knower of the field, the source of forgiveness.
अंधकारे नमस्तुभ्यमाद्यंतरहिताय च
Salutations to You in darkness, to You who are without beginning or end.
उमाकांताय उग्राय नमस्ते ऊर्ध्वरेतसे
To the beloved of Umā, to the fierce one, salutations to You whose seed is upward.
अनंतकारिणे तुभ्यमंबिकापतये नमः 4.2.63.
To You who perform endless deeds, salutations to the Lord of Ambikā.
दृश्यादृश्य यदत्रास्ति तत्सर्वं त्वमु माधव
O Mādhava, whatever is visible or invisible here, all of it is you.
वाच्यस्त्वं वाचकस्त्वं हि वाक्च त्वं प्रणतोस्मि ते
You are the one to be spoken of, you are the speaker, and you are speech itself; I bow to you.
नान्यं नमामि गौरीश नान्याख्यामाददे शिव
I bow to none other, O Lord of Gaurī; I take no other name, O Śiva.
पंगुरन्याभिगमनेऽस्म्यंधोऽन्यपरिवीक्षणे
I am lame when approaching others, blind when looking elsewhere.
पाता हर्ता त्वमेवैको नानात्वं मूढकल्पना
You alone are the protector and the remover; diversity is but the delusion of the foolish.
संसारसागरे मग्नं मामुद्धर महेश्वर
Lift me up, O Great Lord, who am submerged in the ocean of worldly existence.
वाचंयमो भवत्स्थाणोः पुरतः स्थाणुसन्निभः उवाच च प्रसन्नात्मा वरं ब्रूहीति तं मुनिम्
Restraining speech, standing before the steadfast Lord, resembling the steadfast one, the sage with a serene mind spoke: 'Ask for a boon.'
मा भवानि भवानीश दूरं दूरपदप्रद
O Lord of Bhavānī, do not send me far away, you who grant distant paths.
अपरश्च वरो नाथ देयोयमविचारतः
Another boon, O Master, is to be given without deliberation.
तदस्तु सर्वं तेभीष्टं वरमन्यं ददामि च ।। 4.2.63.
Let it be so; all your desires are fulfilled, and I grant you another boon as well.
योगशास्त्रं मया दत्तं तव निर्वाणसाधकम्
I have given you the yoga scripture, which leads to liberation.
रहस्यं योगविद्याया यथावत्त्वं तपोधन
You shall receive, O ascetic, the secret of yoga knowledge in its entirety.
यथा नदी यथा भृंगी सोमनंदी यथा तथा
Just as a river, just as a bee, just as Soma-nandī, so it is.
संति व्रतानि भूयांसि नियमाः संत्यनेकधा
There are many vows, and many disciplines, in various forms.
श्रेयसां साधनान्यत्र पापघ्नान्यपि सर्वथा
Elsewhere are means for attaining excellence, and all are certainly destroyers of sin.
परो हि नियमश्चैष मां विलोक्य यदश्यते
This is the highest discipline: when one beholds me, whatever is eaten.
असमर्च्य च यो भुङ्क्ते पत्रपुष्पफलैरपि
He who eats without worship, even with leaves, flowers, or fruits—
महतो नियमस्यास्य भवतानुष्ठितस्य वै
Of this great discipline, when practiced by you—
