धात्रीफलं च तुलसी मृत्तिका द्वारकोद्भवा
The fruit of the dhātrī, tulasī, and clay from Dvārakā,
यावद्दिनानि वहते धात्रीमालां कलौ नरः 2.4.12.
For as many days as a man wears a dhātrī garland in the Kali age,
मालायुग्मं वहेद्यस्तु धात्रीतुलसिसंभवम्
Whoever wears a pair of garlands made of dhātrī and tulasī,
धात्रीछायां गतो यस्तु द्वादश्यां पूजयेद्धरिम्
Whoever, having entered the shade of the dhātrī tree, worships Hari on the twelfth day,
स्वयं च तत्र भुंक्ते यः सूपभक्षादिकं तथा
And whoever himself eats there, including soup, cooked food, and the like,
तुलस्याश्चैव धात्र्याश्च फलैः पत्रैर्हरिं यजेत्
With the fruits and leaves of tulasī and dhātrī, one should worship Hari.
तुलसी धात्रीयुक्ता हि सिक्ते सति च कार्तिके
When tulasī is joined with dhātrī and watered, especially in the month of Kārtika,
धर्मदत्तो द्विजः पूर्वं यथा मुक्तिमवाप ह
Just as the twice-born Dharmadatta formerly attained liberation,
चातुर्मास्ये न सेव्या सा इत्युक्तं भवता पुरा
It was formerly said by you that she is not to be served during Cāturmāsya,
तद्दिनाऽऽरभ्य सा सेव्या दैवे पित्र्ये च कर्मणि
From that day onward, she is to be served in both divine and ancestral rites.
पूजयंति नरा ये वै ते वै वैकुण्ठगामिनः
Those men who indeed worship her, they truly go to Vaikuṇṭha.
दशम्यां वाऽथ द्वादश्यां पौर्णमास्यामथाऽपि वा ।। 2.4.12.
On the tenth, or twelfth day, or on the full moon as well,
सर्वोपस्करसंयुक्तो वृद्धबालैश्च संयुतः
Equipped with all the necessary articles, accompanied by the old and the young,
चूतैर्बकैस्तथाऽश्वत्थैः पिचुमंदैः कदंबकैः
With mango trees, cranes, aśvattha trees, picumaṇḍa, and kadamba trees,
तत्र गत्वा महाप्राज्ञ पुण्याऽहं कारयेत्पुरा
There, having arrived, the wise one should perform a meritorious rite.
वेदिकां चतुरस्रां च हस्तमात्रायतां शुभाम्
And a square altar, auspicious and measuring a cubit, should be made.
उपवेशाय देवस्य ह्यलं कार्यं तु धातुभिः
For the seat of the deity, a proper arrangement must be made with materials.
मेखलात्रयसंयुक्तं पिप्पलच्छदसंयुतम्
It should be adorned with three girdles and covered with pipal leaves.
पश्चात्स्नात्वा ततो जप्त्वा देवपूजां समाचरेत्
After bathing and reciting prayers, one should then perform worship of the deity.
पायसाऽऽज्यगुडसूपपालाशसमिधा तथा
With offerings of rice pudding, clarified butter, jaggery, soup, palāśa leaves, and fuel.
धात्री शांतिस्तथा कांतिर्माया प्रकृतिरेव च
Dhātrī, tranquility, beauty, Māyā, and Prakṛti as well.
इंदिरा लोकमाता च कल्याणी कमला तथा 2.4.12.
Indirā, the mother of the world, Kalyāṇī, and Kamalā likewise.
प्रज्ञां मेधां च सौभाग्यं विष्णुभक्तिं च देहि मे
Grant me wisdom, intelligence, good fortune, and devotion to Viṣṇu.
बलिप्रदानकाले तु ये कुर्वंति प्रदक्षिणम् 2.4.12.
At the time of offering, those who perform circumambulation.
तस्मात्त्वं कुरु विप्रेंद्र धात्रीस्नानं हि यत्नतः 2.4.12.
Therefore, O best of Brāhmins, perform the dhātrī bath with care.
धात्रीफलकृतां मालां कंठस्थां यो वहेन्नहि 2.4.12.
Whoever wears a garland made of dhātrī fruits around the neck.
धात्रीछायां समाश्रित्य कार्तिकेऽन्नं भुनक्ति यः
Whoever, relying on the shade of the dhātrī tree, eats food in the month of Kārtika.
हर्षोत्फुल्लाऽऽनना सत्या वासुदेवमथाऽब्रवीत्
With a face radiant with joy and truth, she spoke to Vāsudeva.
दानं व्रतं तपो वाऽपि किं नु पूर्वं कृतं मया
Was it charity, a vow, or austerity that I performed earlier?
येनाऽहं मर्त्यजा देव तवांगार्द्धहराऽभवम् तवाऽहं वल्लभा जाता तद्वदस्व ममाऽखिलम्
By which, O god, born from mortals, I became half of your body; I have become your beloved—tell me all of this.
