Taking refuge under the shade of the amalaki tree, one should be endowed with devotion to Hari.
After that, with devotion, one should feed learned brāhmaṇas who know the Vedas.
O brāhmaṇa, when this vow is performed in the month of Kārtika, beloved of Hari,
Because the offerings are dedicated to Hari, and the meal is taken after seeing the sun,
If, at the time of eating, there is any fault of contact with others,
Even if one is pure, abstaining in this way at an auspicious time, O beloved of Hari,
Therefore, with all effort, one should eat under the amalaki tree.
In the month of Kārtika, the brāhmaṇa who wears a garland of amalaki fruits,
Taking shelter under the shade of the amalaki tree, a man should offer a row of lamps.
Rādhā and Dāmodara are to be worshipped especially beneath the tulasī plant.
Whoever has eaten even once under the shade of the amalaki tree during Kārtika,
He who, when Kārtika is complete, worships the auspicious amalaki and then eats himself—prosperity will never depart from him.
O sage, any Vaiṣṇava in the world who bears the fruit of the amalaki,
One whose body is anointed with amalaki fruit, and who is accompanied by amalaki fruit,
He who always carries amalaki fruits in the hollow of his hands,
A man desiring prosperity should always bathe with amalaki fruits.
On the ninth day, at the new or full moon, on the seventh day, at the solstice, or on a Sunday,
A man who, taking shelter in the shade of the dhātrī tree, offers a piṇḍa there,
A man who places it on his head, in his hand, in his mouth, on his arms, and on his neck,
For as long as the dhātrī garland remains on a man's neck, for that time Keśava dwells joyfully in his body.
The fruit of the dhātrī, tulasī, and clay from Dvārakā,
For as many days as a man wears a dhātrī garland in the Kali age,
Whoever wears a pair of garlands made of dhātrī and tulasī,
Whoever, having entered the shade of the dhātrī tree, worships Hari on the twelfth day,
And whoever himself eats there, including soup, cooked food, and the like,
With the fruits and leaves of tulasī and dhātrī, one should worship Hari.
When tulasī is joined with dhātrī and watered, especially in the month of Kārtika,
Just as the twice-born Dharmadatta formerly attained liberation,
It was formerly said by you that she is not to be served during Cāturmāsya,
From that day onward, she is to be served in both divine and ancestral rites.
