Any woman who performs a hundred thousand circumambulations in the month of Kārtika,
She should feed a married couple who embody Rādhā and Āmodara.
Even a barren woman obtains a son; what need is there to speak of others?
In the bodhi tree, among trees, in the śāligrāma stones,
Worship of the aśvattha tree should be performed by touch on a Saturday.
Bathing, staying awake, lighting lamps, and caring for a grove of tulasī,
Sweeping in Viṣṇu's temple and offering svastika and other items,
I will declare the time for bathing and the results obtained at holy places and elsewhere.
O sage, a pot with cloth, joined with tulasī and clay,
Having come near the water, one should place the vessel on the bank.
One should remember rivers such as the Ganges and deities like Viṣṇu and Śarva.
In Kārtika, I will perform the morning bath, O Janārdana.
Having performed the daily and occasional rites, in Kārtika, the destroyer of sin,
One should offer arghya and other oblations in order to the deities presiding over holy places and so forth.
Salutations to the lotus-naveled one; obeisance to you who recline upon the waters.
For one observing vows, in the month of Kārtika, after bathing according to the prescribed method—
The rays, the sin-cleansing waters, and Sarasvatī, the holy river—
And likewise, for the other rivers, one should offer arghya as prescribed.
No other sacred place on the Jāhnavī is ever to be remembered.
Then, the clay bath, the ancestral bath, and the bath for the teacher, in due order.
Having performed the aghamarṣaṇa rite, and the ritual bath, one should also offer libations.
Then, coming out, one should place the sacred water upon the head.
After emerging from the water, one should wring out the wet cloth outside.
For the removal of that fault, I offer oblation to Yakṣmaṇa.
What was spoken by the Sun to Aruṇa, in detail—
O blessed one, declare this in the field as pertains to the practice of bathing.
Wherever it may be, the Kārtika bath should be performed in water.
Then, tenfold merit arises from immersion in cold water.
A thousandfold fruit accrues from drawing water from a well.
Then, tenfold merit comes from immersion in streams.
