Then the maiden spoke.
The king asked her, 'What is your condition?'
Then the maiden said to him, 'Water must not be shown.'
The king replied, 'Agreed,' and, joining her, remained with her.
While the king was still nearby, the army arrived; together with her, the king sat, and the army surrounded and stood by him.
The king was honored, and Shibi departed in the same manner.
The women said, 'What purpose is there here? We have already seen that water; it is not esteemed here.'
Then Amātya, having made the place waterless, found a wooden tree, aged, with flowers and fruit, in autumn, and spoke to the kings.
By his words, he entered the forest with the queen.
In that delightful forest, with his wife, he enjoyed himself.
Entering, the king, together with his beloved, saw a pond filled with nectar-white water.
Seeing the pond filled with frogs, he stood with the queen on its very bank.
Then the king spoke to the queen.
Hearing those words, she plunged into the sacred pond and then emerged again.
Seeing the pond filled with frogs, he ordered his servants, 'Let all the frogs be killed.'
Whoever desires me should honor me with offerings from those frogs.
Then, as the destruction of the frogs was being carried out in every direction, a great frog appeared.
Approaching him, and seeing that he was overcome by anger, the frog spoke these words.
Here, a verse is recited: 'The great virtue of those who know the truth is diminished.'
To him, who spoke thus, whose heart was afflicted by the loss of his dear ones, the king replied.
These wicked ones have certainly devoured my wife; therefore, these frogs are to be killed without doubt.
Hearing these words, with senses and mind distressed, he said, 'Be gracious, O king; I am called Āyur, O lord of the earth.'
'My daughter has come here; here is Nāgacūḍa, the king of the serpents.'
The king said to him, 'Bring her here, remembering her, and give her to me.'
Then, remembering her, he gave her to the king.
The great sage Gālava, emaciated by austerities, was mocked by me.
But when the brāhmaṇa was appeased, he replied.
'This curse of mine is unfailing; therefore, in another birth, you will become the king of frogs. When, after giving your daughter—endowed with all virtues and born in the Ikṣvāku lineage—to another, you go to the northern part of the great Kāla forest, then, by seeing the liṅga, you will attain liberation.'
'Your daughter will go to the lower regions for a while, but when remembered, she will return.'
To the north of that, he saw the liṅga; by seeing it, ascending a splendid celestial chariot made by many divine beings and attended by perfected ones and gandharvas, he went to the world of Indra.
