Dakṣa, son of Pracetas, was bound fast with a strong noose.
The entire account has been told in detail, just as it happened.
The Vasus and the gods were destroyed, Bhāskara was afflicted in battle; where has Varuṇa, lord of the waters, gone, O Supreme Lord?
All was slain by Bhadrakālī and the hosts of Vīrabhadra.
The great hall was set ablaze, the gateway of the sacrifice was broken; filled with compassion, he came to where I was standing on Mandara.
Having offered my praise, I then spoke these words.
O Mahādeva, the Vasus have been shattered by Bhadrakālī.
How can the embodiment of the Tuṣitas take place, O god?
Let these Tuṣitas go to the field in the great forest of Time.
And let the Brāhmaṇas, accompanied by their four disciples, act according to my command.
There, my disciples, equal to myself, have attained bodily form.
On the southern side of that field, there exists a most excellent liṅga.
By the grace of that liṅga, these gods will obtain bodies.
Joyful, together with Brahmā, they are where that most excellent liṅga is.
Again, those who are born in such a way, satisfied as they were, the god will always be known as the fulfiller of desires.
Those who, having gone to the southern direction, approach the god Kāyāvarohaṇa—
Whatever sin accumulated over thousands of millions of births—
And the groups of ancestors who, by their own actions, have gone to hell—
Those who see, even incidentally, the god Kāyārohaṇa—
Even sinful men, by touching that liṅga—
If the god Kāyāvarohaṇeśvara is worshipped with hypocrisy—
Those who, having bathed, see Kāyāvarohaṇa on the twelfth day—
O Goddess, thus I have told you the power that destroys sin.
Thus, in the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, in the section of eighty-one thousand verses, in the fifth Avanti division, in the greatness of the eighty-four liṅgas, in the dialogue of Umā and Maheśvara, this is the eighty-second chapter named 'The Description of the Greatness of Kāyāvarohaṇeśvara'.
By merely hearing of him, one is freed from all sins.
In the beginning of the age, O great goddess, out of compassion for the worlds—
Among them, the bilva tree is sung as the auspicious tree.
At that time, he was seen seated by Brahmā, the creator of the worlds.
He eats, exceedingly delighted, both the tender and the soft portions.
He is armed with a sword, adorned with a crown and garlands, wearing earrings and armor as well.
