O goddess, seeing that form of darkness you created—
I created a man, terrifying to behold; command me, O lord of the gods, what shall I do, master of the world?
Then, O goddess, knowing your intention, I gave the order.
By my command, Vīrabhadra, together with Bhadrakālī,
Destroy, O chief of the hosts, the sacrifice along with its attendants.
And you, too, Bhadrakālī, were given a terrifying army.
Then those two were surrounded by that great army.
O goddess, surrounded by gods and by the officiating Brahmins, they confidently drank the soma, purified by mantra, at the sacrifice.
The lord of the gods, with three eyes and a trident,
With the troop called Yama, shining like Yama himself,
Varuṇa was bound with a noose, and by Gaṇapati with a noose as well.
Then the wind-god was struck, and in the north, the one who rides men—those appointed by Vīrabhadra waged a most terrible battle.
Then Bhadrakālī, terrifying in aspect, began a battle with great ferocity.
She blazed like a burning fire, dreadful with her emaciated flesh.
Holding skulls and cleavers in her hands, she struck the hosts of gods; seeing this, the gods approached, eager for battle and gratified.
Some hurled spears, and others threw javelins.
When the host of Mothers was afflicted and the Pramathas were oppressed,
The one with six rays tormented them in battle with swords and other weapons.
He struck the arms of the Sun and the feet of Bhāskara.
Even as they vomited blood, their heads shattered and destroyed, they perished.
Dakṣa, son of Pracetas, was bound fast with a strong noose.
The entire account has been told in detail, just as it happened.
The Vasus and the gods were destroyed, Bhāskara was afflicted in battle; where has Varuṇa, lord of the waters, gone, O Supreme Lord?
All was slain by Bhadrakālī and the hosts of Vīrabhadra.
The great hall was set ablaze, the gateway of the sacrifice was broken; filled with compassion, he came to where I was standing on Mandara.
Having offered my praise, I then spoke these words.
O Mahādeva, the Vasus have been shattered by Bhadrakālī.
How can the embodiment of the Tuṣitas take place, O god?
Let these Tuṣitas go to the field in the great forest of Time.
And let the Brāhmaṇas, accompanied by their four disciples, act according to my command.
