पुण्यलोको पमस्थानं त्रिविष्टपविभूषणम्
It is a world of merit, a supreme place, an ornament of heaven.
मया प्रोक्तं प्रसन्नेन स्थानं शृणु सनातनम्
With a pleased mind, I have described the eternal place to you; listen.
अनौपम्यगुणोपेतं भुक्तिमुक्तिकरं शुभम्
Endowed with incomparable virtues, it bestows both enjoyment and liberation, and is auspicious.
देवगन्धर्व्वसिद्धैश्च सेव्यं वै मुक्तिकांक्षिभिः 5.2.81.
It is indeed served by gods, gandharvas, and siddhas who desire liberation.
तिलकं सर्वतीर्थानां जंबूद्वीपे मनोरमे
It is the ornament of all holy places on the delightful Jambūdvīpa.
जरारोगभयैर्हीनं सर्वव्याधिविवर्जितम् स्वर्गे प्रमुदिता देवास्तेऽपि कांक्षंति सर्वदा
Free from old age, disease, and fear, devoid of all ailments; even the delighted gods in heaven always desire it.
असंख्येयफलं त्वत्र अक्षया च गतिः सदा
Here, the fruit is immeasurable and the path is always inexhaustible.
क्षेत्रस्य च गुणान्वक्तुं देवदानवमानवैः
Even gods, demons, and humans are unable to describe the virtues of this field.
यत्किंचिदशुभं कर्म कृतं मानुषकर्मणा
Whatever inauspicious deed is done by human action,
न सा गतिः कुरुक्षेत्रे गंगाद्वारे त्रिपुष्करे
That path is not found at Kurukshetra, Gangadvara, or Tripushkara.
तिर्यग्योनिगता गत्वा महाकालवने स्थिताः
Those who have entered animal wombs and dwell in the great Kāla forest,
मेरुमंदरमात्रोपि राशिः पापस्य कर्मणः
Even if the heap of sinful deeds is as great as Meru or Mandara,
श्मशानमिति चाख्यातं महाकालवनं प्रिये
The great Kāla forest, dear one, is also called a cremation ground.
योगिनश्च तथा सांख्याः सिद्धाश्च सनकादयः 5.2.81.
Likewise, yogis, followers of Sāṃkhya, and perfected beings such as Sanaka and others.
या गतिर्योगतपसां या गतिर्यज्ञयाजिनाम्
That state which is attained by those devoted to yoga and austerity, that state which is reached by those who perform sacrifices—
संहरामि च तत्रस्थस्त्रैलोक्यं सचराचरम्
I withdraw, while remaining there, the three worlds along with all that moves and does not move.
एवं बहुविधाञ्छुत्वा गुणान्बहुविधांस्तथा
Having heard thus the many kinds of virtues and likewise the many qualities—
क्षेत्रस्यालोकने चित्तं जातमुत्कंठितं तव
Your mind has become eager upon seeing the field.
पश्य देवि विचित्राख्यं यन्मया कथितं तव वर्णितं यन्मया देवि भुक्ति मुक्तिकरं परम्
Behold, O goddess, the wondrous account which I have narrated to you, which I have described, O goddess, as the supreme means for enjoyment and liberation.
त्वया प्रोक्तं विशालाक्षि दृष्ट्वा क्षेत्रमनुत्तमम् नियुज्यतां महादेव संतोषाय मम प्रभो
You have spoken, O wide-eyed one, having seen the excellent field; let Mahadeva be appointed for my satisfaction, O Lord.
द्वाराणि तत्र चत्वारि क्रियतां परमेश्वर
Let four gates be made there, O Supreme Lord.
पूर्वादिक्रमयोगेन चतुर्वर्गो नियोज्यताम्
Let the fourfold aim of life be established according to the order of the directions.
त्वदीयं वचनं श्रुत्वा मया देवि प्रयत्नतः
Having heard your words, O goddess, I have carefully acted.
चत्वार ईश्वरास्तेऽपि स्थापितास्तदनंतरम् 5.2.81.
Those four Lords were established immediately thereafter.
बिल्वेश्वरो गणश्रेष्ठो दुर्दर्शो गण नायकः
Bilveshvara, the foremost among the hosts, difficult to behold, leader of the hosts—
पूर्वादिक्रमयोगेन त्वत्प्रियार्थं वरानने
According to the order of the directions, for your pleasure, O beautiful-faced one—
दक्षिणस्यां दिशि तथा प्रिये कायावरोहणः
In the southern direction likewise, beloved, is Kayavarohana.
मानवा ये म्रियंतेऽत्र क्षेत्रमध्ये गणो त्तमाः
Those humans who die here, in the midst of the field, are the foremost among the hosts.
कथां शृणु प्रयत्नेन पिंगलेश्वरसंभवाम्
Listen attentively to the tale of Pingaleshvara's origin.
पिंगला कन्यका देवि कान्यकुब्जे बभूव ह
Pingala, a maiden, O goddess, was born in Kanyakubja.
