राजसंपत्करं दिव्यं पुत्रपौत्रविवर्द्धनम् तस्य दर्शनमात्रेण विपाप्मा च भविष्यसि
There is a divine emblem that brings royal prosperity and increases sons and grandsons; by merely seeing it, you will be freed from evil.
दुःस्वप्नजं भयं घोरं विनंक्ष्यति न संशयः
The terrible fear arising from bad dreams will certainly be destroyed—there is no doubt.
इत्युक्तो गुरुणा भूयो वशिष्ठेन महात्मना ददर्श तत्र तल्लिंगं दुष्टदुःस्वप्ननाशनम्
Thus addressed again by the great-souled preceptor Vasiṣṭha, he saw there that emblem which destroys evil and bad dreams.
नष्टाः सर्वेपि दुःस्वप्नाः सुस्वप्नाश्चाभवंस्तदा अयोध्यायां गतो राज्यं चकार मुदितस्तदा
All bad dreams vanished, and only good dreams appeared then; having gone to Ayodhyā, the king ruled joyfully at that time.
तदाप्रभृति देवोऽयं सुस्वप्नेश्वरसंज्ञकः
From that time onward, this god became known as the Lord of Good Dreams.
अष्टम्यां च चतुर्दश्यां देवं स्वप्नेश्वरं शिवम् आजन्मप्रभवं तेषां दुःस्वप्नं च विनश्यति
On the eighth and fourteenth days, those who worship the god Śiva, Lord of Dreams, all their bad dreams from birth are destroyed.
स एव सर्वदा पूज्य इह लोके परत्र च
He alone is always to be worshipped in this world and the next.
यं यं काममभिध्याय मनसाभिमतं नरः
Whatever desire a person contemplates in his mind—
नियमेन प्रपश्यंति देवं स्वप्नेश्वरं सदा 5.2.80.
By regular observance, they always behold the god, Lord of Dreams.
भक्तिहीनः क्रियाहीनो यः पश्यति प्रसंगतः
Even one without devotion or ritual, who sees him by chance—
ये च पुष्पैर्विचित्रैश्च पूजयन्ति च पर्वसु दीर्घायुषः शुभाचारा जायन्ते देहिनोऽमलाः
And those who worship with various flowers on festival days, they are born with long life, good conduct, and pure bodies.
एते च ब्रह्मविष्ण्विंद्रकुबेरदहनादयः
These include Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Indra, Kubera, Agni, and others.
एष ते कथितो देवि प्रभावः पापनाशनः
O Goddess, thus has the power that destroys sin been told to you.
इति श्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां पञ्चम आवन्त्यखण्डे उमामहेश्वरसंवादे स्वप्नेश्वरमाहात्म्यवर्णनं नामाशीतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the eightieth chapter, entitled 'The Greatness of Svapneśvara,' in the dialogue between Umā and Maheśvara, in the fifth Avantya section of the eighty-one-thousand-verse Skanda Purāṇa.
यस्य दर्शनमात्रेण कृतकृत्यो नरो भवेत्
By merely seeing him, a person becomes fulfilled.
अहं पृष्टस्त्वया देवि कौतुकाच्च वरानने
O beautiful-faced one, you have asked me out of curiosity, O Goddess.
सेवितं बहुभिः सिद्धैः पुनरावृत्तिकांक्षिभिः
It has been served by many perfected beings who desire rebirth.
अनन्यसदृशं दिव्यं यत्तीर्थं यत्तपोवनम्
That holy place and that hermitage are divine, without equal.
सुवर्णशृंगाः प्रासादा हर्म्याणि विविधानि च
There are palaces with golden peaks and various mansions.
समीहितफलावाप्तिर्यत्र लभ्या सुखेन वै
There, the desired fruit is easily obtained.
पुण्यलोको पमस्थानं त्रिविष्टपविभूषणम्
It is a world of merit, a supreme place, an ornament of heaven.
मया प्रोक्तं प्रसन्नेन स्थानं शृणु सनातनम्
With a pleased mind, I have described the eternal place to you; listen.
अनौपम्यगुणोपेतं भुक्तिमुक्तिकरं शुभम्
Endowed with incomparable virtues, it bestows both enjoyment and liberation, and is auspicious.
देवगन्धर्व्वसिद्धैश्च सेव्यं वै मुक्तिकांक्षिभिः 5.2.81.
It is indeed served by gods, gandharvas, and siddhas who desire liberation.
तिलकं सर्वतीर्थानां जंबूद्वीपे मनोरमे
It is the ornament of all holy places on the delightful Jambūdvīpa.
जरारोगभयैर्हीनं सर्वव्याधिविवर्जितम् स्वर्गे प्रमुदिता देवास्तेऽपि कांक्षंति सर्वदा
Free from old age, disease, and fear, devoid of all ailments; even the delighted gods in heaven always desire it.
असंख्येयफलं त्वत्र अक्षया च गतिः सदा
Here, the fruit is immeasurable and the path is always inexhaustible.
क्षेत्रस्य च गुणान्वक्तुं देवदानवमानवैः
Even gods, demons, and humans are unable to describe the virtues of this field.
यत्किंचिदशुभं कर्म कृतं मानुषकर्मणा
Whatever inauspicious deed is done by human action,
न सा गतिः कुरुक्षेत्रे गंगाद्वारे त्रिपुष्करे
That path is not found at Kurukshetra, Gangadvara, or Tripushkara.
