Then his ministers said, 'What are you doing, O king?'
That king then recounted his evil dreams in order.
The world was obstructed, enveloped by dense darkness.
Falling from the mountain peak into a filthy, muddy pool.
My whole body was smeared with oil, and I plunged into oil itself.
Passionate women sang, adorned with red garlands and ointments.
Though being dragged by them, I was led toward the southern direction.
I was submerged between sand and mud, tormented by iron devices.
I stood with my neck bowed, being devoured by jackals.
I was immersed in a river, motionless, like the earth deprived of water.
Struck in the chest, as if with feet resembling thunderbolts.
By fierce, dark men, armed and brandishing weapons with thorns.
Thus, I witnessed this terrifying night.
Having observed this dreadful dream journey, with its many forms and unimagined aspects,
Hearing the king's words, the ministers were deeply distressed.
Now the city appears to be overtaken by Saturn, the Sun, and Mars.
The senses do not function well; moments have become harsh.
They comforted the king, speaking these words.
Such visions arise in a person during dreams, due to the influence of bodily elements.
From these, you will be freed from the disturbance of the mind.
Thus the king was consoled by his ministers, who were well-versed in righteousness.
The eldest son of Vasiṣṭha, Śakti, was indeed devoured by me.
Afflicted by that sin, how can I possibly find peace?
Again, through my own cruelty, she too was not spared; by this very body I have become a Rākṣasa, the destroyer of my lineage.
Born in the race of the Raghus, I am a wicked soul, sprung from sin.
Hearing these words of Saudāsa, they were utterly astonished.
Alas, this great sin has been committed in every way by the sinner.
Therefore, for the sake of this king, we must depart at once today.
Having spoken thus, those ministers, deeply distressed, departed together with him.
There, where the lord was consoling his sorrowful wife, who was unseen, he spoke these words to Vasiṣṭha in a voice trembling with fear.
