कंपस्वेदपरित्राणलज्जाप्रणयकेलिदात्
From trembling, sweat, modesty, affection, and playful intimacy,
अथ तामब्रवीत्कापि दैवी वागशरीरिणी
Then a divine voice, embodied, spoke to her:
त्वयार्चितमिदं लिंगं सैकतं स्थिरवैभवम्
"This sand linga, worshipped by you, possesses enduring glory.
तपश्चर्यां तवालोक्य रचितं धर्मपालनम्
Seeing your austerity and the observance of dharma you have performed,
अहं हि तैजसं रूपमास्थाय वसुधातले
Indeed, I have assumed a radiant form upon the earth.
रुणद्धि सर्वलोकेभ्यः परुषं पापसंचयम्
I obstruct the harsh accumulation of sin from all worlds.
ऋषयः सिद्धगंधर्वा महात्मानश्च योगिनः
The sages, accomplished Gandharvas, and great-souled yogis,
मदंश जातयोः पूर्वं युध्यतोर्ब्रह्मकृष्णयोः 1.3.1.4.
In the past, during the battle between Brahma and Krishna, the essence of intoxication arose from both lineages.
ब्रह्मणा हंसरूपेण विष्णुना क्रोडरूपिणा
Brahma took the form of a swan, and Vishnu that of a boar.
ततः प्रसन्नः प्रत्यक्षस्तस्यां वरमभीप्सितम्
Then, pleased and manifest, he granted the desired boon there.
प्रार्थितश्च पुनस्ताभ्यामरुणाचलसंज्ञया
Again, both requested him by the name Arunachala.
गत्वा पृच्छ महाभागं मद्भक्तिं गौतमं मुनिम्
Go and ask the illustrious sage Gautama, who is devoted to me.
तत्र ते दर्शयिष्यामि तैजसं रूपमात्मनः
There, I will reveal to you my radiant form.
इति वाचं समाकर्ण्य निष्कलात्कथितां शिवात्
Having listened to these words spoken by Shiva, who is without parts,
अथ देवानृषीन्सर्वान्पश्चात्सेवार्थमागतान्
Then, all the gods and sages arrived afterwards to serve.
तिष्ठतात्रैव वै देवा मुनयश्च दृढव्रताः
The gods and steadfast sages remained there.
सर्वपापक्षयकरं सर्वसौभाग्यवर्द्धनम्
It destroys all sin and increases all good fortune.
अहं च निष्कलं रूपमास्थायैतद्दिवानिशम् 1.3.1.4.
And I, assuming the partless form, remain here day and night.
मत्तपश्चरणाल्लोके मद्धर्मपरिपालनात्
Through my worship, my footsteps in the world, and the protection of my dharma,
सर्वकामप्रदानेन कामाक्षीमिति कामतः
By granting all desires, she is called Kamakshi, out of desire.
अहं हि देवदेवस्य शंभोरव्याहतो जनः
Indeed, I am the unimpeded offspring of Shambhu, the god of gods.
तत्र गत्वा तपस्तीव्रं कृत्वा शंभुं प्रसाद्य च
There, having gone and performed intense austerity, and having pleased Shambhu,
इति सर्वान्विसृज्याशु सद्भक्तान्पादसेविनः
Thus, having quickly dismissed all the true devotees who served at his feet,
नित्याभिसेविताऽकारि सखीभिरभियोगतः
she was constantly attended by her companions, who were devoted in their service.
अंतस्तेजोमयं शांतमरुणाचलनायकम्
Within, she beheld the radiant, peaceful Lord of the Aruṇa mountain.
प्रणम्य स्थावरं लिंगं कौतूहलसमन्विता
Filled with curiosity, she bowed to the immovable liṅga.
अत्रिर्भृगुर्भरद्वाजः कश्यपश्चांगिरास्तथा
There, Atri, Bhṛgu, Bharadvāja, Kaśyapa, and also Aṅgirās
तपः कुर्वंति सततमपेक्षितवराप्तये 1.3.1.4.
constantly practiced austerities, seeking the attainment of their desired boons.
दिव्यलिंगमिदं पूज्यमरुणाद्रिरिति स्मृतम्
This divine liṅga, known as Aruṇādri, is regarded as worthy of worship.
अभ्यर्थिता पुनः सर्वैरातिथ्यार्थे महर्षिभिः
Again, she was requested by all the great sages to accept their hospitality.
