Then he fell upon the mountain, struck by Indra's thunderbolt; and when this child fell, appearing dead from the lightning's blow—
Then Vayu, taking him, went to the great forest of Kala.
As soon as he was touched by the linga, the monkey rose up.
Seeing this one, now breathing, the Wind-god was delighted.
By the touch of this linga, my son has arisen.
Meanwhile, Indra arrived, surrounded by the gods.
Because his jaw was struck by the thunderbolt hurled by me,
Varuṇa then granted him a boon: death shall not come to him.
The Sun gave him radiance, and the Wind gave him swift movement.
He shall be invulnerable to all weapons.
He brings fear to enemies and grants safety to friends.
Always, for the delight of Rāghava, he destroys the strength of the enemy.
When Rāvaṇa is slain, he remains with Rāma's consent.
Then all the gods, filled with devotion, will honor me.
Then the Wind-god took his son and brought him home.
Thus, by the power of the liṅga, the son of the Wind became mighty.
With valor, enthusiasm, intellect, brilliance, noble character, sweetness, and wisdom,
Just as fire burns up worlds when the ocean is agitated by me,
Thus have I told you what you asked me.
Having seen and honored Rāma, we are going; they worshiped Lord Śiva, Hanumatkeśvara, and those who devotedly worship the liṅga, honored by the gods,
They surely attain the most difficult, imperishable union with Brahman; having attained it, they gain liberation and never return to birth.
Whoever beholds the liṅga at Hanumatkeśvara, dear one,
For him, in all worlds, the path is never obstructed.
With a radiant chariot shining like the rising sun.
He wanders without discernment among all the worlds of the gods.
Falling from heaven, he is born in a great family, endowed with beauty.
From seeing him, one becomes a king or equal to a king.
O goddess, thus I have told you this power, which destroys sin.
Thus ends the seventy-ninth chapter, named 'The Greatness of Hanumatkeśvara,' in the dialogue between Umā and Maheśvara, in the section on the eighty-four liṅgas, in the Avantya division, of the eighty-one-thousand-verse Mahāpurāṇa called the Śrī Skanda.
Know the deity called Āśītika, lord of dreams, O beloved.
