जन्ममृत्युभयं हित्वा स याति परमां गतिम् ।। 5.2.78.
Abandoning the fear of birth and death, he attains the highest state.
ब्रह्महापि च यो गच्छेदविमुक्तेश्वरं यजेत्
Even one who has slain a Brahmin, if he goes to Avimukteśvara or worships there,
शाठ्येनापि च यः पश्येदविमुक्ते श्वरं शिवम्
Or even if, with deceit, one beholds Śiva, the Lord in Avimukta,
स्मृतः संपूजितो भक्त्या स्तुतो वा विविधैः स्तवैः
If he is remembered, worshipped with devotion, or praised with various hymns,
एष ते कथितो देवि प्रभावः पापनाशनः
O Goddess, this power of his, which destroys sin, has been told to you.
यस्य दर्शनमात्रेण समीहितफलं लभेत्
By whose mere sight one obtains the desired fruit,
प्राप्तराज्यस्य रामस्य राक्षसानां वधे कृते
When Rāma had attained his kingdom, after the destruction of the Rākṣasas,
रामेण पूजिताः सर्वे ह्यगस्तिप्रमुखा द्विजाः
All the Brahmins, headed by Agastya, were worshipped by Rāma.
दिष्ट्या तु निहतो राम रावणः पुत्रपौत्रवान्
By good fortune, Rāvaṇa, who had sons and grandsons, was slain by you, O Rāma.
हनूमता च सहितं वानरेण महात्मना
Together with Hanumān, the great-souled monkey,
चिरं जीवतु दीर्घायुर्वानरो हनुमान्सदा
May Hanumān the monkey always live long and have a long life.
आखंडलोऽग्निर्भगवान्यमो वै निऋतिस्तथा ब्रह्मणा सहिताश्चैव दिक्पालाः पातु सर्वदा
May Aṅgada, Agni, the blessed Yama, and also Nirṛti, along with Brahmā and the guardians of the directions, always protect you.
श्रुत्वा तेषां तु वचनं मुनीनां भावितात्मनाम्
Hearing the words of those sages of purified mind,
किमर्थं लक्ष्मणं त्यक्त्वा वानरोऽयं प्रशंसितः
For what reason, leaving Lakṣmaṇa aside, is this monkey praised?
अथोचुः सत्यमेवैतत्कारणं वानरोत्तमे 5.2.79.
Then they said: 'This is indeed true, and this is the reason concerning the best of monkeys.'
एष देव महाप्राज्ञो योजनानां शतं प्लुतः
This divine, greatly wise one leapt a hundred yojanas.
प्रादेशमात्रप्रतिमं कृतं रूपमनेन वै
He made his form as small as a span of the hand.
सेनाग्रगा मंत्रिपुत्राः किंकरा रावणात्मजाः
The chiefs of the army, the ministers' sons, the attendants, and Rāvaṇa's sons—
भूयो बन्धविमुक्तेन संभाष्य तु दशाननम्
Again, after being freed from his bonds, he spoke with the ten-headed one.
न कालस्य न शक्रस्य न विष्णोर्वेधसोऽपि वा
Neither Time, nor Indra, nor Vishnu, nor even the Creator himself—
राम उवाच एतस्य बाहुवीर्येण लंका सीता च लक्ष्मणः
Rama said: By the strength of his arms, Lanka, Sita, and Lakshmana—
सखायं वानरपतिर्मुक्त्वैनं हरिपुंगवम्
This friend, the lord of the monkeys, released the foremost among monkeys.
वाली किमर्थमेतेन सुग्रीवप्रियकाम्यया
Vali, for what reason did he act out of desire to please Sugriva?
नायं विदितवान्मन्ये हनुमानात्मनो बलम्
I think Hanuman was unaware of his own strength.
एवं ब्रुवाणं रामं तु मुनयो वाक्यमब्रुवन् 5.2.79.
As Rama was speaking thus, the sages addressed him.
न बले विद्यते तुल्यो न गतौ न मतावपि
There is no equal to him in strength, nor in speed, nor even in wisdom.
न ज्ञातं हि बलं येन बलिना वालिमर्दने
Indeed, his strength was not known, even when the mighty Vali was subdued.
तन्न वर्णयितुं शक्यमेतस्य तु बलं महत्
It is not possible to describe his great strength.
असौ हि जातमात्रोऽपि बालार्क इव मूर्त्तिमान्
Even as a newborn, he was embodied like the young sun.
तूर्णमाधावतो राम शक्रेण विदितात्मना
Swiftly running, Rama, he was recognized by Indra, who knows himself.
