Skanda Purana
I, though of noble birth, was bewildered by that highly virtuous brahmin.
O king, he became my beloved, but I was not beloved to him.
He, steadfast in the vow of celibacy, does not direct his feelings elsewhere. Father, I questioned women who had been abandoned by their husbands.
O king, those women told me, 'The husband will become obedient.'
With various medicines, powders, and mantras of powerful delusion,
Then, O king, I quickly went as they had instructed me.
At dusk, the powder mixed with milk was administered to my husband.
When the powder, thoroughly concealed by mantra, was drunk,
I stood at the doorway, weeping, O beautiful one, as your servant.
Knowing his crying, O king, was due to the power of the mantra,
From that moment, my beloved became obedient to me in the house.
I was burned in a copper vessel for fifteen ages, cut by the thread of time, tormented by a nose-pressing device.
Boiled in a pot with scalding oil, stirred with a ladle,
Crushed by teeth-grinding, I was terribly burned in Raurava hell.
Any young woman, dear one, who seeks to control her husband,
The husband is master, the husband is teacher, the husband is indeed the supreme deity.
When the husband is pleased, all the gods are pleased with women; she is reduced to ashes who does not please her husband.
By whose favor various enjoyments are always obtained,
She enters a hundred animal wombs, and hundreds of births as worms and birds.
Thus again I endured hells of extreme torment.
For the partial cleansing of my sin, I was born in the house of a caṇḍāla.
Surrounded by dogs, wretched, repeatedly devoured by them, though tormented by them I went to the great forest of death.
I beheld the great god, the divine one, while pursuing the deer.
Merely by seeing him, I went toward the city of Indra, adorned in celestial garments, radiant, and decorated with divine garlands.
There, I was honored by the gods and praised by the celestial beings.
Beloved and endowed with beauty, I resided in the auspicious city of Shakala.
Remembering the greatness of the linga, joy arose in me at that very moment.
I became one who remembers past births, O father, established in the vow of celibacy, so that I might not be born again in the ocean of worldly existence.
Hearing these words of his daughter, Citrashena, the king,
Saw that linga there and worshipped it with devotion.
