At that moment, no one spoke anything, nor did anyone look up.
Not knowing my mind, out of compassion for the Gaṇas,
They will always remain here near you, without doubt.
Lowly, dominated by rajas, afflicted, bearing much darkness,
Thus speaking, but due to confusion, prompted by the intended meaning,
Fall, you, into the world of men, because you have done what displeased me.
By my command, quickly go and become the son of the Brāhmaṇa.
Thus addressed, O Goddess, Vīraka became the Brāhmaṇa's son.
Afflicted by remorse, he sighed again and again.
Such servants, united in mind with their masters, are considered rare.
The gods are pleased with them, O Lord, and so are those men who are devoted.
By what true principle the Lord becomes difficult to propitiate is not to be known.
Acts of service perish; therefore, service is exceedingly hard to perform.
Therefore, one should serve with effort, being intent on self-protection.
To which worlds shall I go, tainted like a slayer of a Brahmin? He spoke with a pitiful voice, bowing again and again.
I am wretched, I am without knowledge, and I am bowed before you, O Shankara.
The anger of lords does not bring about fulfillment for those who depend on them.
By your command, I would even become an insect or a moth.
Hearing these words of Pushpadanta, O Parvati—
Go, my son, at my command, to the auspicious Mahakala forest.
Your fame, my son, will last until the dissolution of the universe. When you said this, O goddess, I too spoke, O beautiful-faced one:
My word, my son, will never be false in any way.
You will ascend into a celestial chariot adorned with flowers.
With the hosts and with me as well, you will joyfully move about.
I will come there, to the auspicious Mahakala forest.
By this pure devotion, you will be a benefactor to the worlds.
Thus addressed by me, O goddess, Pushpadanta, the chief of the hosts—
He worshipped the linga, and then, by the command of Durvasa, he will attain fame by your name; your favor has now been granted.
Meanwhile, O goddess, I went together with you.
Puṣpadaṃta, delighted, sat upon the auspicious seat adorned with flowers.
