Having received the boon as desired, she became pleased at that time.
Kadrū, having obtained a thousand sons of equal brilliance,
The wives, delighted by the boon, Kaśyapa entered the forest; Vinatā then gave birth to two eggs.
The attendants, rejoicing, placed their eggs.
Then, after five hundred years, the sons of Kadrū emerged.
Then the goddess, desiring sons, became ashamed and devoted herself to austerity.
One was revealed with only half its body complete.
Mother, I have been made thus by you, overcome by greed.
For five hundred years you have always competed with her.
Even if you, mother, like me, because of breaking the egg—
You must patiently wait for the time of his birth.
Having thus cursed, the goddess then addressed her own mother Vinatā.
Alas! By me, so cruelly, my own mother has been wronged— a mother is the source of the body for men, a mother endures the greatest suffering.
A mother alone knows the extreme pain of the suffering of pregnancy.
Of all teachers, the mother is considered the greatest.
Even if a son performs the offering of the ball of rice at Gayā, the father does not show affection to one who is without a mother.
A son without a mother is called incomplete; the whole world becomes empty when the mother is lost.
I have become a sinner, one who has harmed his mother.
I have been born with defective limbs, due to actions from a previous life.
As he, the son of Kaśyapa, was lamenting in this way—
Seeing Aruṇa, overwhelmed with great sorrow, lamenting again and again—
This Aruṇa, alas, cries out—born from Kaśyapa himself.
He has been born with a half-formed body, but great strength, and though lamenting in delusion, surely good will come to me.
Thinking thus in his mind, with words as sweet as honey and nectar—
O son, heir of Kaśyapa, born from Vinatā's womb—
Future events of both sorrow and happiness come to pass here.
If there is compassion in your heart, O mother of the cursed son,
then undertake the auspicious pilgrimage of the Lord of gods, Yātreśa.
Thus addressed by the great sage Nārada, Aruṇa,
there saw that liṅga, shining and auspicious, like a peak of light.
