विमानस्थेन या प्रोक्ता तूष्ट्रेण मधुरस्वरा
The words spoken by the one in the chariot, with a sweet voice, who was formerly a camel—
दर्शनादस्य लिंगस्य प्राप्ता मे परमा गतिः समीपमस्य लिंगस्य त्वं मे बंधुः परो यतः
By the sight of this liṅga, I have attained the highest state; because you are near this liṅga, you are my supreme kinsman.
इत्युक्त्वा स नृपं देवि वचः समधुराक्षरम्
Having spoken thus, O goddess, he addressed the king with words most sweetly uttered.
ततो देवगणा व्योम्नि सकिंनरमहोरगाः
Then the hosts of gods in the sky, along with kinnaras and great serpents—
ब्रह्मेंद्रहरिमुख्याश्च विमानैर्देवि संस्थिताः
Brahmā, Indra, Hari, and the foremost, O goddess, stood in their celestial chariots.
विलोक्य करभं मुक्तं विमानस्थं विराजितम्
Seeing the elephant, freed, resplendent, dwelling in the chariot—
अच्छरत्नसमूहेन मुकुटेनोज्वलत्विषा 5.2.73.
With a crown shining with a multitude of celestial jewels—
नाम चक्रुस्ततो देवा दृष्ट्वा माहात्म्यमुत्तमम्
Then the gods gave him a name, having seen his supreme greatness.
तस्मात्त्रिष्वपि लोकेषु विख्यातः करभेश्वरः
Therefore, in all three worlds, he became renowned as Karabheśvara.
इत्युक्त्वा त्रिदशाः सर्वे गताः स्वं धिष्ण्यमुत्तमम् समृद्धं निःसपत्नं च ततो राज्यं चकार सः
Having spoken thus, all the gods returned to their own excellent abodes; then he ruled the kingdom, prosperous and without enemies.
यः पश्यति नरो देवि करभेश्वरसंज्ञकम्
O goddess, any man who beholds the one called Karabheśvara—
यदा कालादिहायातो राजराजेश्वरो महान्
Whenever the great lord of kings comes here by the force of time—
न दुःखं जायते तस्य व्याधिशोकभयं तथा
He does not experience suffering, nor disease, sorrow, or fear.
सर्वमेधेषु यत्पुण्यं सर्वदानेषु यत्फलम्
Whatever merit is gained in all sacrifices, whatever fruit in all gifts—
व्याधयो नोपजायंते दारिद्र्यं न कदाचन
Diseases do not arise, nor does poverty ever occur.
पशुयोनिगता ये च पितरो दुःखितास्तु ये
And those ancestors who have entered animal wombs, and those who are afflicted,
आगमिष्यति नः पुत्रो नप्ता वा संतताविह तेन दर्शनमात्रेण मुक्तिर्नो भविता ध्रुवम्।।5.2.73.
Our son or grandson will come here in the future; by merely seeing him, our liberation will surely be attained.
यो यमुद्दिश्य वै कामं दर्शनं तु करिष्यति
Whoever, with this intention, seeks to behold him,
एष ते कथितो देवि प्रभावः पापनाशनः
This, O Devi, is the power I have described to you, which destroys sin.
यस्य दर्शनमात्रेण सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
By merely seeing him, one is freed from all sins.
विष्णुकल्पे पुरा वृत्ते मन्वंतरमुखप्रिये
In the age of Vishnu, at the beginning of a former Manvantara, O beloved of Manu,
न मनुष्यैर्विना देवाः समर्था लोकधारणे
Without humans, even the gods are not capable of upholding the worlds.
योग्यो राजा प्रजापालः को भवेज्जनवत्सलः
Who is fit to be a king, a protector of the people, and one who cherishes his subjects?
पृथ्व्यां सर्वगुणाकीर्णं धर्मनिष्ठं महाव्रतम्
On earth, one endowed with all virtues, steadfast in righteousness, and devoted to great vows,
राज्यं च पाल्यतां वत्स एककल्पेन चेतसा
O child, let the kingdom be protected with a mind intent on a single purpose.
अलं ते तपसा तात कष्टेनानेन सांप्रतम्
Enough, dear one, of this harsh austerity for now.
क्रियतामधुना लोकपालनं तु ममाज्ञया
Now, by my command, let the protection of the world be undertaken.
न धर्मस्तादृशोऽन्योऽस्ति न चान्योऽर्थस्य साधकः
There is no other righteousness like this, nor any other means of prosperity.
नापकारेण भूतानामपि स्याद्भुवनेशता पृथ्वीं समुद्रवसनां प्रजाश्चैव प्रपालय ।। 5.2.74.
Not even by harming beings does lordship of the world arise; protect the earth clothed in oceans and the people as well.
इत्युक्तः स तु राजर्षिर्ब्रह्मणा पर्वतात्मजे
Thus addressed by Brahma, the royal sage spoke to the daughter of the mountain.
