Those men who see Shiva as Candrādityeśvara with devotion,
As long as the Moon and Sun endure, so long will happiness be theirs.
At the eclipse of the Moon and Sun, Candrādityeśvara Shiva is present.
As many hundreds of their ancestral and maternal lineages,
Those who see together at the conjunction of the new moon and full moon,
This, O Devi, has been told to you—the power that destroys sin.
Thus, in the eighty-one-thousand section of the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, in the fifth Avanti division, in the eighty-fourth chapter on the greatness of the linga, in the dialogue between Umā and Maheśvara, is the description of the greatness of Candrādityeśvara, the seventy-second chapter.
By merely seeing him, one does not attain a bad womb.
Vīraketu, wise and intelligent, became the king of Ayodhyā.
He properly protected his subjects, as a father would his own sons.
Then, on a certain day, the king entered the dense forest.
There, the slayer of enemy heroes struck various wild animals.
That entire forest, teeming with beasts, birds, and animals, was disturbed.
When no wild beasts were seen in that thick forest,
O Devi, the buffalo quickly seized an arrow, and the powerful king swiftly pursued the buffalo.
Then, both the buffalo and the king ran rapidly toward the low ground.
Thereupon, the king, with youthful vigor and strength,
Then, rivers, streams, marshes, and forests appeared.
And again, O Devi, the buffalo repeatedly approached the king.
Struck by many arrows from him, the buffalo became agitated, and again sped forth, appearing at his side and in front.
Then, at that moment, the buffalo entered a fierce wilderness.
Entering the great forest, he reached the hermitage of ascetics.
Seeing him, bow in hand, weary and hungry,
He received the worship offered by the sages, as prescribed.
Those ascetics, rich in austerity, accepted the king's words.
O noble one, for what purpose of happiness have you come to this hermitage?
We wish to hear this: from where have you arrived, O giver of honor?
Then the king, foremost among men, spoke to all the twice-born.
O best of twice-born, Vīraketu was born in the lineage of Ikṣvāku.
He was endowed with great strength, accompanied by ministers and attendants.
