Thus, that Daitya king, together with his attendants, rejoiced there.
Hearing these words of theirs, that supreme god among men—
O Moon and Sun, I have known the actions of Shambara.
Formerly, a thunderbolt was hurled at Shambara by the wielder of the thunderbolt.
Now, by my command, go to the excellent Lavana, O great ones.
There, Ananta, Mahakala, and Maheshvara in the form of a linga are present.
By merely seeing him, you will have accomplished your purpose; there is no doubt you will succeed, so go there at once.
Thus addressed by Vasudeva, the glorious Moon and Sun—
There, seeing Mahadeva, the unfailing mass of brilliance—
At that moment, a voice arose from the midst of the linga.
That Daitya, Shambara, was slain, and the Moon and Sun departed.
Rahu and Ketu, at the end of the planets, were assigned their positions according to agreement.
All the guardians of the worlds, filled with joy, returned to their respective places.
You two will move in the sky together with the planets and stars.
Thus addressed by that speech, O radiant-faced one, were the Moon and the Sun.
Meanwhile, the gods assembled, standing in their celestial vehicles.
Knowing the greatness of the linga, they spoke its name with concentration.
The name 'Candrādityeśvara' will become renowned on earth, burned along with servants through the service of the Moon and Sun.
Having spoken thus, all the gods stood together on every side nearby.
The Moon and Sun also stood there, beside the linga.
Those men who see Shiva as Candrādityeśvara with devotion,
As long as the Moon and Sun endure, so long will happiness be theirs.
At the eclipse of the Moon and Sun, Candrādityeśvara Shiva is present.
As many hundreds of their ancestral and maternal lineages,
Those who see together at the conjunction of the new moon and full moon,
This, O Devi, has been told to you—the power that destroys sin.
Thus, in the eighty-one-thousand section of the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, in the fifth Avanti division, in the eighty-fourth chapter on the greatness of the linga, in the dialogue between Umā and Maheśvara, is the description of the greatness of Candrādityeśvara, the seventy-second chapter.
By merely seeing him, one does not attain a bad womb.
Vīraketu, wise and intelligent, became the king of Ayodhyā.
He properly protected his subjects, as a father would his own sons.
