नियमेन तु यः पश्येत्तल्लिंगं संगमेश्वरम्
And whoever beholds that liṅga of Saṃgameśvara with discipline—
गांगं च सफलं पुण्यं यामुनं नामर्दं तथा।। । जायते चांद्रभागं च संगमेश्वरदर्शनात्
By seeing Saṃgameśvara, the Gaṅgā becomes fruitful and meritorious, the Yamunā is not diminished, and the Candrabhāgā is also attained.
यः पश्येच्छ्रावणे मासि तल्लिंगं संगमेश्वरम्
Whoever beholds that liṅga of Saṃgameśvara in the month of Śrāvaṇa—
मासि चाश्वयुजे देवं यः पश्येत्संगमेश्वरम् 5.2.69.
And whoever beholds the god Saṃgameśvara in the month of Āśvayuja—
यः पश्येत्कार्त्तिके मासि तल्लिंगं संगमेश्वरम्।। । राजसूयसहस्रं तु कृतं तेन न संशयः
Whoever beholds that liṅga of Saṅgameśvara in the month of Kārttika, has certainly performed a thousand Rājasūya sacrifices—there is no doubt.
चतुरो वार्षिकान्मासान्यः पश्येत्संगमेश्वरम्
Whoever sees Saṅgameśvara during the four months of the rainy season—
एष ते कथितो देवि प्रभावः पापनाशनः
O Goddess, thus I have told you of its power, which destroys sin.
इति श्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां पञ्चम आवन्त्यखण्डे चतुरशीतिलिंगमाहात्म्ये संगमेश्वरमाहात्म्यवर्णनंनामैकोनसप्ततितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the sixty-ninth chapter, called 'The Description of the Greatness of Saṅgameśvara,' in the section on the eighty-four liṅgas, in the Avantya division of the eighty-one-thousand-verse Mahāpurāṇa of Śrī Skanda.
यस्य दर्शनतो देवि नरः पापैः प्रमुच्यते
O Goddess, by seeing whom a man is freed from sins—
दुर्द्धर्षोनाम राजाभून्नेपालविषये पुरा
There was once a king named Durdharṣa in the land of Nepal.
तिस्रस्तस्याभवन्भार्यास्तत्तुल्याः सुमनोहराः
He had three wives, all equally charming and beautiful.
कदा मृगरसाविष्टो देवाद्वै वातरंहसा
Once, impelled by a strong wind from the gods, he was seized by a desire for hunting.
गजेंद्रमृगशार्दूलसिंहसंबरसंकुलम्
In that forest, teeming with elephants, deer, tigers, lions, and buffalo—
तस्मिन्वने सुविस्तीर्णं कदलीखंडमंडितम्
In that wide forest, adorned with clusters of banana trees—
ददर्श दर्पणस्वच्छं सरो नीरजराजितम्
He saw a lake, clear as a mirror, covered with lotuses.
ददर्श कन्यां तत्रैव काननस्येव देवताम्
There he saw a maiden, like a goddess of the forest.
चित्रन्यस्त इव क्षिप्रमभूद्विस्मयनिश्चलः
As if suddenly painted in a picture, he became motionless with astonishment.
कन्दर्पकोटिसदृशं विश्रान्तं नृपमब्रवीत् 5.2.70.
She, resembling ten million Cupids, spoke to the resting king.
तपोरतस्य शांतस्य सर्वदा ब्रह्मचारिणः
To one devoted to austerity, peaceful, and always observing celibacy—
इति तस्या वचः श्रुत्वा मन्मथेनाकुलीकृतः
Hearing her words, he was overwhelmed by love.
मम प्राणव्ययः सुभ्रूस्त्वां विना समुपस्थितः
O fair-browed one, my very life is leaving me without you.
त्यज्यते प्राप्तममृतं यदेतद्बुद्धिलाघवम्
Even nectar, once attained, is abandoned—such is the fickleness of the mind.
भज मामनवद्यांगि तवेतद्वदनामृतम्
O faultless one, serve me; your nectar-like speech is my delight.
स्वयं पिबामि चेद्विद्धि परलोकगतं हि माम्
If I myself drink it, know that I am as one gone to the next world.
भ्रष्टायां मयि तातस्य विनष्टे कन्यकाफले
If I am lost, then the fruit of your father's daughter is also destroyed.
यदि ते परमं प्रेम ममोपरि महीपते
If you have the highest love for me, O king,
तस्यास्तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा नान्यथा मे भविष्यति
Hearing her words, I will not act otherwise.
गत्वा ययाचे प्रणतः स्थितं निजतपोवने 5.2.70.
He went and humbly requested him, who was staying in his own hermitage.
तत्रैव संगतो राजा मन्मथेन वशीकृतः
There, the king, overcome by love, was united with her.
कदलीखण्डकुञ्जेषु रम्यासु वनराजिषु सिषेवे चारु सुरतं स विदग्धोऽतिमुग्धया
In the groves of banana clusters, in the charming forest ranges, that clever one enjoyed delightful love-play with the exceedingly innocent maiden.
