सुता त्वं वल्लभा जाता कांचीपुरनिवासिनः
You became the beloved daughter of a resident of Kāñcīpura.
आवां राजत्वमापन्नौ तस्य लिंगस्य दर्शनात्
We both attained royalty by seeing that liṅga.
मध्याह्ने कदनं स्मृत्वा ततो मे शिरसि व्यथा
Remembering the slaughter at midday, I then felt pain in my head.
एतत्ते कथितं देवि पृष्टोऽहं यत्त्वया पुरा 5.2.69.
This, O lady, I have told you, as you once asked me.
स्थातव्यं च मयात्रैव सेव्योऽसौ संगमेश्वरः
I must remain here and serve Saṃgameśvara.
ततः सा निरवद्यांगी नीलोत्पलविलोचना
Then she, flawless in form, with eyes like blue lotuses—
मयापि संस्मृतं देव पूर्वजन्मनि चेष्टितम्
O god, I too have remembered the actions performed in my previous birth.
प्राप्तावावां मनुष्यत्वं निर्मलेषु कुलेषु च
We both have attained human birth in pure and noble families.
प्राप्ता भार्या प्रियाहं ते त्वं च प्राप्तो मया नृप
I have become your beloved wife, and you, O king, have come to me.
अस्य देवस्य माहात्म्याद्वियोगो न भविष्यति
Because of the greatness of this deity, there will be no separation.
पुनः प्रणम्य प्रणता सहसा मन्मथाकुला
Again bowing down, overcome with the agitation of love, she submitted herself.
तव देवप्रसादेन यदि त्वं संगमेश्वरः कांतां पिबन्निव दृशा प्राह तां तरलेक्षणाम्
By your grace, O lord of the confluence, if you are indeed the master, gazing at your beloved as if drinking her with your eyes, you spoke to her, whose eyes were swift like a doe's.
सहजेनाभिजन्येन गुणैः कांत्या विभूषिता
Endowed with natural and innate virtues and adorned with beauty,
ततस्तां भयसंत्रस्तां कंपिताधरपल्लवाम् 5.2.69.
Then, seeing her trembling in fear, with quivering lips like tender leaves,
वदन्कंदर्पसर्पेण दष्टोऽहं दैवतोऽधुना
I have now been bitten by the serpent of love, O divine one.
पुरे मम वरारोहे चिरं रेमे तया सह
Formerly, O beautiful-hipped one, I enjoyed long happiness together with her.
भेजे राज्यं तया सार्द्धं विस्तारितमहोत्सवः
I ruled the kingdom with her, celebrating great and splendid festivals.
अपूर्वत्यागिना तेन त्रैलोक्यं विस्मयं ययौ
Because of that unprecedented renunciation, the three worlds were filled with wonder.
भुक्त्वा च विपुलान्भोगांस्तस्मिँल्लिंगे लयं गतः
Having enjoyed abundant pleasures there, I merged into that liṅga.
यः पश्येत्परया भक्त्या तल्लिंगं संगमेश्वरम्
Whoever beholds with supreme devotion that liṅga of Saṃgameśvara—
नियमेन तु यः पश्येत्तल्लिंगं संगमेश्वरम्
And whoever beholds that liṅga of Saṃgameśvara with discipline—
गांगं च सफलं पुण्यं यामुनं नामर्दं तथा।। । जायते चांद्रभागं च संगमेश्वरदर्शनात्
By seeing Saṃgameśvara, the Gaṅgā becomes fruitful and meritorious, the Yamunā is not diminished, and the Candrabhāgā is also attained.
यः पश्येच्छ्रावणे मासि तल्लिंगं संगमेश्वरम्
Whoever beholds that liṅga of Saṃgameśvara in the month of Śrāvaṇa—
मासि चाश्वयुजे देवं यः पश्येत्संगमेश्वरम् 5.2.69.
And whoever beholds the god Saṃgameśvara in the month of Āśvayuja—
यः पश्येत्कार्त्तिके मासि तल्लिंगं संगमेश्वरम्।। । राजसूयसहस्रं तु कृतं तेन न संशयः
Whoever beholds that liṅga of Saṅgameśvara in the month of Kārttika, has certainly performed a thousand Rājasūya sacrifices—there is no doubt.
चतुरो वार्षिकान्मासान्यः पश्येत्संगमेश्वरम्
Whoever sees Saṅgameśvara during the four months of the rainy season—
एष ते कथितो देवि प्रभावः पापनाशनः
O Goddess, thus I have told you of its power, which destroys sin.
इति श्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां पञ्चम आवन्त्यखण्डे चतुरशीतिलिंगमाहात्म्ये संगमेश्वरमाहात्म्यवर्णनंनामैकोनसप्ततितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the sixty-ninth chapter, called 'The Description of the Greatness of Saṅgameśvara,' in the section on the eighty-four liṅgas, in the Avantya division of the eighty-one-thousand-verse Mahāpurāṇa of Śrī Skanda.
यस्य दर्शनतो देवि नरः पापैः प्रमुच्यते
O Goddess, by seeing whom a man is freed from sins—
दुर्द्धर्षोनाम राजाभून्नेपालविषये पुरा
There was once a king named Durdharṣa in the land of Nepal.
