Desiring immediate death, I spoke these words.
Reunion with wife and son is difficult to attain again.
For the sake of the family, one acts thus; alone, he survives—everything is accomplished by righteousness, therefore one should rely on righteousness.
While I was thinking thus intensely, my life departed, beloved.
Even at the moment of death, I praised righteousness.
You were then born as a female hawk in that very excellent forest.
By the current of the three rivers, I emerged from the water.
I was brought by you, O lady, into the presence of Saṃgameśvara.
As I was dying, I saw that god, Saṃgameśvara.
By merely seeing him, I was born as a king.
You became the beloved daughter of a resident of Kāñcīpura.
We both attained royalty by seeing that liṅga.
Remembering the slaughter at midday, I then felt pain in my head.
This, O lady, I have told you, as you once asked me.
I must remain here and serve Saṃgameśvara.
Then she, flawless in form, with eyes like blue lotuses—
O god, I too have remembered the actions performed in my previous birth.
We both have attained human birth in pure and noble families.
I have become your beloved wife, and you, O king, have come to me.
Because of the greatness of this deity, there will be no separation.
Again bowing down, overcome with the agitation of love, she submitted herself.
By your grace, O lord of the confluence, if you are indeed the master, gazing at your beloved as if drinking her with your eyes, you spoke to her, whose eyes were swift like a doe's.
Endowed with natural and innate virtues and adorned with beauty,
Then, seeing her trembling in fear, with quivering lips like tender leaves,
I have now been bitten by the serpent of love, O divine one.
Formerly, O beautiful-hipped one, I enjoyed long happiness together with her.
I ruled the kingdom with her, celebrating great and splendid festivals.
Because of that unprecedented renunciation, the three worlds were filled with wonder.
Having enjoyed abundant pleasures there, I merged into that liṅga.
Whoever beholds with supreme devotion that liṅga of Saṃgameśvara—
