He appeared like a mass of clouds in autumn, dark amidst the bright.
This is that slayer of Madhu, the thunderbolt to the mountain of the Danavas.
He is the destroyer of the tender creepers of the Daitya women’s pride.
Free from fear, he sleeps alone, always harboring crooked intentions.
Having spoken thus, the Daitya lord Puloman, filled with anger, saw him again and again pondering in the lotus of his navel.
Then Brahma, seeing that wondrous sight, became greatly disturbed.
Then the mighty slayer of Kaitabha quickly regained consciousness.
Unconquerable and steadfast in battle, he spoke these words to Brahma.
That Daitya, having obtained a boon, will suddenly defeat me.
Therefore, go swiftly to the auspicious great forest of Time.
To the north of Cyavana’s hermitage, endowed with the power of Shiva and Shakti,
Where the water is ceaselessly touched by the hand of Kuṇḍeśvara.
Hearing his words, Brahmā, the grandsire of the worlds,
At once, beholding with devotion, the grandsire offered praise.
Salutations to the One of unconquerable might, salutations to the soul of all actions in the universe.
Salutations to the tawny-haired One, salutations to the Bearer of the crescent moon.
I bow to You, the Sustainer of beings, ever the destroyer of enemies.
I bow to You, Lord of the gods, Lord of the universe, Great Lord.
I bow to You always, O God, destroyer of the hosts of demons.
Thus praised, the Blessed Lord Maheśvara, in the form of the liṅga,
"What boon do you desire today? What shall I grant, O Grandsire?"
Hearing these words of the liṅga, Brahmā then spoke:
"Take this water, O Lord of Speech, born of weapons, a ward against enemies."
Thus addressed, Brahmā quickly went to where Janārdana was.
There, in the Svārociṣa Manvantara, Pulomā was a great being.
There Janārdana beheld that liṅga and gave it a name; therefore, it will be known among people as Brahmeśvara.
Those men who behold with devotion the god Brahmeśvara, Śiva,
And he who sees, even by chance, the god Brahmeśvara, Śiva,
Or the man who, going to Puṣkara, performs austerity for a hundred years,
Even a mortal bound by five great sins, with a wicked mind,
