'I shall become your Lord; then you will attain liberation. I will take the form of a liṅga, known as Paśupatīśvara.'
Then all the gods, seeing that Lord, the Supreme Ruler, Brahmā addressed Paśupati with a heart full of joy.
'O Lord of gods, those who see you with supreme devotion, and through the results of their own actions, for them there will be liberation.'
'Whether out of ignorance or knowledge, whatever sin is committed by men—'
'Those men are like cattle in the world; what fruit is there in their lives?'
'Whatever is acquired in childhood, youth, adolescence, or old age—'
'But when the month of Pauṣa arrives, those men who see you—'
'Whatever is given during a solar eclipse, especially at Kurukṣetra—'
'In the month of Pauṣa, in a single day, men obtain even more.'
Having spoken thus, the blessed Brahmā returned to Brahmaloka, O King.
Therefore, O king, if you desire the highest state, go to Mahākālavana, to the south of Indreśvara.
Hearing those words of the great sage Nārada, and by seeing that liṅga, he attained the supreme state.
O goddess, thus I have told you the glory that destroys sin.
Thus ends the sixty-fourth chapter, called 'The Description of the Greatness of Paśupatīśvara,' in the section on the eighty-four liṅgas, in the fifth Avantya Khaṇḍa of the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, comprising eighty-one thousand verses.
By merely beholding him, one attains the world of Brahma.
Puloman, the lord of the Daityas, was of immense strength and valor.
Even the gods worshipped that Daitya as their lord, just as the immortals do.
Even now, the guardians of the worlds—of the sun, moon, fire, and waters—
If that is so, then what use are my austerities or even my life?
Surrounded by all those powerful Paulomas, they suddenly saw Madhusudana lying down.
He appeared like a mass of clouds in autumn, dark amidst the bright.
This is that slayer of Madhu, the thunderbolt to the mountain of the Danavas.
He is the destroyer of the tender creepers of the Daitya women’s pride.
Free from fear, he sleeps alone, always harboring crooked intentions.
Having spoken thus, the Daitya lord Puloman, filled with anger, saw him again and again pondering in the lotus of his navel.
Then Brahma, seeing that wondrous sight, became greatly disturbed.
Then the mighty slayer of Kaitabha quickly regained consciousness.
Unconquerable and steadfast in battle, he spoke these words to Brahma.
That Daitya, having obtained a boon, will suddenly defeat me.
Therefore, go swiftly to the auspicious great forest of Time.
