सौभाग्यं भविता तत्र कांतेन सह दर्शनम्
There, good fortune will arise for you upon seeing it together with your beloved.
इत्युक्ता सा तदा तेन तापसेन वरानने
Thus addressed at that time by the ascetic, O beautiful-faced one—
ददर्श प्रणयोपेता लिंगं सौभाग्यदायकम्
She beheld, with affection, the linga that grants good fortune.
पप्रच्छ जमदग्निं तु क्व गता मे प्रिया विभो
He asked Jamadagni, 'O Lord, where has my beloved gone?'
मया त्यक्ता नृशंसेन अहं तस्यास्तु वल्लभः 5.2.61.
I, cruelly abandoned by her, wish to be her beloved.
न भक्षिता सा भूपाल सिंहव्याघ्रनिशाचरैः
O king, she has not been devoured by lions, tigers, or night-roaming creatures.
महाकालवनं राजन्गता सौभाग्यकाम्यया
O king, she has gone to the great Kāla forest, desiring good fortune.
भार्यायां रक्ष्यमाणायां प्रजा भवति रक्षिता
When the wife is protected, the subjects are also protected.
धर्महानिश्चानुदिनमभार्यस्य भवेन्नृप
Day by day, the absence of a wife brings about the decline of dharma for a king.
पत्न्यानुकूलया भाव्यं यथाशीलेऽपि भर्त्तरि
One should act favorably toward one's wife, even if the husband is of a different disposition.
इति तस्य वचः श्रुत्वा समायातो नरेश्वरः
Hearing those words, the king arrived.
सौभाग्यालंकृतां सुभ्रू पूजयंतीं महेश्वरम्
He saw the fair-browed one, adorned with good fortune, worshipping Maheśvara.
विरहेण त्वदीयेन संतप्तोऽहं वरानने
O beautiful one, I am tormented by separation from you.
यत्त्वां पश्यामि सुभगे कृतार्थोहं कृतस्त्वया उवाच च प्रसीदेति भूयो भूयो मुदान्विता
Whenever I see you, O fortunate one, I feel fulfilled, made so by you; and again and again, filled with joy, I say: 'Be gracious.'
ततः स राजा रभसात्परिष्वज्याह भामिनीम् 5.2.61.
Then the king, in his eagerness, embraced the radiant lady.
ततः समागमो जातो जातः पुत्रोऽतिधार्मिकः
Afterwards, their union took place, and a son was born, exceedingly righteous.
सौभाग्यमतुलं लब्धं तया देव्या हिमात्मजे
Unmatched good fortune was gained by that queen, daughter of the Himalayas.
ये पश्यंति विशालाक्षि सौभाग्येश्वरमीश्वरम्
Those who behold the lord of good fortune, O wide-eyed one, the lord of prosperity,
भविष्यति न दारिद्र्यं वियोगो न च बन्धुभिः
There will be no poverty for them, nor separation from relatives.
नोपसर्गभयं तेषां ये पश्यंति वरानने
There is no fear of affliction for those who see you, O beautiful-faced one.
सर्वबाधाविनिर्मुक्तो धनधान्यसमन्वितः संपूज्यः सर्वलोकेषु सौभाग्येकनिधिर्भवेत्
Freed from all troubles, endowed with wealth and grain, honored everywhere, he becomes the sole treasure of good fortune.
|| जायते भूपतिर्लोके सार्वभौमो वरानने जायते दुर्भगा नैव सौभाग्येश्वरदर्शनात्
A universal king is born in the world, O beautiful-faced one; misfortune never arises from the sight of the lord of prosperity.
न वैधव्यं न च व्याधिर्नाकालमरणं श्रिये
There is neither widowhood, nor disease, nor untimely death for those blessed by fortune.
यथा लक्ष्मीर्हरेर्नित्यं सावित्री ब्रह्मणः स्मृता तथा सा जायते नारी सौभाग्येश्वरदर्शनात्
Just as Lakshmi is always remembered as Hari's, and Savitri as Brahma's, so a woman is born thus from the sight of the lord of prosperity.
एष ते कथितो देवि प्रभावः पापनाशनः 5.2.61.
This, O goddess, has been told to you—the power that destroys sin.
इति श्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां पञ्चम आवंत्यखण्डे चतुरशीति लिंगमाहात्म्ये सौभाग्येश्वरमाहात्म्यवर्णनंनामैकषष्टितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the sixty-first chapter, called 'The Description of the Greatness of Saubhagyeśvara,' in the Liṅgamāhātmya section of the fifth Avanti book of the glorious Skanda Purāṇa, comprising eighty-four thousand verses.
यस्य दर्शनमात्रेण रूपवाञ्जायते नरः
By merely seeing him, a man becomes handsome.

In the Padma age, O great goddess, there was a king named Padma, born at the four ends of the earth, devoted to righteousness and mighty.

Once, that great-armed one, possessing abundant strength and vehicles,
बिल्वार्कखदिराकीर्णं कपित्थधवसंकुलम्
