'Come, come, O tiger among kings! By good fortune you have come near me.'
Then, from his loud utterance, piercing the netherworld, five maidens—
Another woman, taking a vessel, went out filled with water.
Others took two fans and stood on either side.
By that sound of 'hum', it was as if something had come from the realm of the gods.
Immediately after, he saw a supreme linga, radiant with light.
Upon seeing that, the best of kings was overcome with amazement.
Then, when questioned by the king, the sage spoke these words:
Thus, this illusion has been shown to you, achieved through difficult austerity.
By the utterance of 'hum', the earth was instantly filled with water.
Then, by the sound 'hum', the whole earth became made of fire.
All this was accomplished by the sound 'hum' in that very instant, O Pārvatī.
Then the king wandered about, filled with wonder, finding nothing there.
As he was thinking thus, a great sound arose.
It was vast, adorned with pure gold, and arranged with harmonious divisions.
Again there was a great sound, and from it appeared a pair of women.
Once more a sound arose, and from it came an excellent man.
Again, from that sound, a man was born, divided into seven parts, as has been told, O wide-eyed one, making the king's hair stand on end.
Behold this world, O king, created for me by austerity.
Thus addressed at that time by the ascetic, the king...
O best of twice-born, the two women you saw, one white and one black, are divine.
And that man, devoted to Brahman, became one and then was manifest as seven.
These two women, white and black, whom you saw, O best of kings—
The two heads you saw are these two just mentioned; the twelve feet you beheld are remembered as the twelve months.
That man who was born in seven forms, having become one, O lord of men—
This cycle of the year has been shown to you for the sake of your beloved.
All the worlds, with gods, asuras, and humans, are perishable.
Perform the vision of this liṅga for the destruction of your enemies.
Thus addressed, the king then beheld the supreme liṅga; those who were hostile died, as heard from that lord of the earth.
The king went to that land and indeed became a universal sovereign.
