Beautiful people were born, and a great festival commenced.
Then the king thought, 'I have committed this sin.'
As that Pṛthu of immeasurable splendor was thinking thus,
Seeing Pṛthu so afflicted and lost in thought, O beloved,
Then he confessed, 'I have committed this sin.'
To which worlds shall I go, having performed such a terrible deed?
Therefore, by your instruction and effort, O twice-born, lift me from this sorrow; tell me of the supreme glory of the liṅga, which destroys great sins.
In the great Kāla forest, to the west of the Abhayeśvara liṅga, go there quickly, O king; there you will become purified.
Hearing Nārada's words, Pṛthu went there.
The lord of the earth became radiant like twelve suns.
Then, O beautiful-faced goddess, by those who move in the sky, this name was given; from this day, this god is renowned as Pṛthukeśvara.
And whoever sees the lord of gods, Pṛthukeśvara, the Lord—
Whatever sin arises among men, whether from ignorance or knowledge,
Whether by speech, mind, body, or from secret causes—all of that is swiftly removed by the sight of Pṛthukeśvara.
Those who worship with devotion the god Pṛthukeśvara—
Having enjoyed sovereignty among men and gods on earth—
Having spoken thus, Pṛthukeśvara was worshipped by the hosts of gods.
Thus, O goddess, I have told you the power of Pṛthukeśvara, destroyer of sins.
Thus ends the fifty-first chapter, named 'The Greatness of Pṛthukeśvara,' in the section on the eighty-four liṅgas, in the fifth Avantya Khaṇḍa of the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, comprising eighty-one thousand verses.
By whose mere sight no affliction from planets arises—
She is called Saṃjñā, wife of the Sun; she is the daughter of Viśvakarman, and created from the essence of his own being by his power.
She was respectfully instructed to remain in the presence of the Sun.
Having spoken thus, she then regained consciousness and went to her father's house; she gave birth to a son, who was named Śanaiścara.
When he was born, fear arose among gods, demons, and humans alike.
Even Indra, overwhelmed by fear, sought refuge with Brahmā.
The circle of Rohiṇī was broken, and the constellation sphere was pervaded.
Hearing the words of Vāsava, Brahmā, the grandfather of the worlds,
Let boundaries be set for Bhānu; restrain your own son.
Hearing the words of Brahmā, Ravi spoke as follows:
Behold, my feet have been burned merely by his playful glance.
