मा तद्भीतिं कुरु युवंस्त्वत्कार्यं भविताचिरात्
Do not be afraid of that; your purpose will soon be fulfilled.
स्थिरो वीरो महाबाहुर्दानवागमनेक्षणः
A steadfast, heroic, strong-armed man, watchful for the coming of the demon.
अथ सायं समायातो दानवो भीषणाकृतिः
Then, in the evening, the demon of terrifying appearance arrived.
आगत्य दानवो रौद्रः प्रलयांबुदनिस्वनः
The fierce demon came, roaring like a storm cloud at the end of the world.
गृहाणेमानि रत्नानि दिव्यानि वरवर्णिनि
Take these jewels, O woman of excellent complexion, these divine gems.
दासीनामयुतं प्रातर्दास्यामि तव सुंदरि
I will give you ten thousand maidservants in the morning, O beautiful one.
गन्धर्वीणां किंनरीणां सततं परिचारिकाः 5.2.46.
There will always be attendants for you from among the Gandharvīs and Kinnarīs.
राक्षसीनां शतान्यष्टौ शतमप्सरसां वरम्
Eight hundred Rakshasī women and a hundred of the best Apsaras will be yours.
यावत्संपत्तिसंभारो दिक्पालानां गृहेषु वै
As much wealth and treasure as is gathered in the houses of the guardians of the directions.
दिव्यान्भोगान्मया सार्द्धं भोक्ष्यसे मत्परिग्र हात्
You will enjoy divine pleasures together with me, as my consort.
त्वदंगसंगसंस्पर्शसुखस्वादातिमेदुरः
Intense is my longing for the joy and sweetness of union and contact with your body.
मनोरथाश्चिरं यावद्ये मे हृदि समेधिताः
For a long time, these desires have grown strong in my heart.
जित्वा देवान्रणे सर्वानिंद्रादीन्मृगलो चने
Having conquered all the gods in battle, including Indra and the rest, like a lion among beasts.
आधायांके त्रिशूलं च सुष्वापेति प्रलप्य सः
Placing the trident on his lap, he muttered as he fell asleep.
वरं स्मरंती सा गौर्या विद्याधरकुमारिका आहूय तं नरवरं वरं सर्वांगसुंदरम्
Remembering her boon, that Vidyādhara maiden, devoted to Gaurī, summoned that excellent man, beautiful in every limb.
विष्णुभक्तिकृतत्राणं प्राणनाथेति जल्प्य च
Murmuring, 'Protector through devotion to Viṣṇu, lord of my life.'
तमादाय त्रिशूलं च स तदामित्रजिन्नृपः 5.2.46.
Then that king, destroyer of enemies, took up his trident.
जगादोत्तिष्ठ रे दुष्ट कन्यादूषणलालस
He said, 'Rise, you wicked one, eager to defile maidens!'
इति संश्रुत्य संप्राप्तः कस्य दृष्टोद्य चांतकः
Hearing this, he approached, wondering for whom death had now appeared.
मम प्रचंडदोर्दंडकंडूकंडूयनक्षमः
He is fit to scratch the itch of my fierce, rod-like arm.
मा भैर्मे कौतुकं पश्य भक्षोयं मम सांप्रतम्
Do not be afraid; watch the spectacle—he is about to be devoured by me.
इत्युक्त्वा मुष्टिघातेन तेनोच्चैर्दंडसूनुना
Having spoken thus, the son of Daṇḍa struck him forcefully with his fist.
स चक्रिणा कृतत्राणः पीडां नाल्पीयसीमपि
Protected by the wielder of the discus, he did not feel even the slightest pain.
अथ कोपवता राज्ञा हतो वक्त्रे चपेटया उवाच च वचो धैर्यमवष्टभ्य महाबली
Then, struck on the face by the angry king, the mighty one steadied himself and spoke these words with courage:
ततस्त्वं छिद्रमासाद्य हंतुं मां दानवांतक
So, finding a weakness, you seek to kill me, O destroyer of Dānavas.
एवंविधो हि मधुभिद्यदि त्वं बलवानसि
If you are truly strong, O slayer of Madhu, then act accordingly.
त्वया कपटरूपेण बलिना कैटभादयः 5.2.46.
By you, in a deceptive form, the mighty Kaiṭabha and others were slain.
पश्यतोऽस्य महाबाहोः स च प्राणाञ्जहौ क्षणात् 5.2.46.
As the great-armed one watched, he took his life in an instant.
सापि विद्याधर्यवंतीं समृद्धां वीक्ष्य दूरतः 5.2.46.
She, seeing from afar the prosperous Vidyādhara maiden,
तस्योपरि शुभं पद्मं रविरश्मिप्रकाशितम् विधिं संपूजयेद्भक्त्या रक्तमाल्यांबरादिभिः ।। 5.2.46.
Above her, a beautiful lotus shone with the rays of the sun; one should worship the Creator there with devotion, using red garlands, garments, and the like.
