Except for stories of Hari, no other talk is heard,
Out of fear of that king, even those animals who roam happily in the forest,
Are not killed anywhere out of fear of him, not even by those who eat fish and meat,
Even infants do not suckle upon the arrival of Hari’s day, being intent on fasting; what then of other people?
A great festival is celebrated by all the citizens,
He who is without devotion to Vishnu, even with life and wealth,
Even those of lowest birth in that kingdom bear the marks of the conch and discus,
Whatever auspicious acts are performed daily by people,
Without Mukunda, Govinda, the supremely blissful Acyuta—Krishna alone was the true friend of that king,
Thus, while that king ruled the realm justly,
He was honored by the king according to the rite of offering madhuparka,
The lord of men beheld Govinda present in all beings,
He who is the person of the Veda is Viṣṇu; he who is the person of sacrifice is Hari.
O best of kings, to you who behold the universe as pervaded by Him,
This alone is the essence here, in this world that is fleeting like a moment.
Whoever, abandoning everything, always worships Viṣṇu alone,
Whose senses have attained steadiness in Hṛṣīkeśa—how wondrous that is!
Youth, wealth, and lifespan are like water on a lotus leaf.
In whose speech, mind, and ear the god Janārdana, Lord of Śrī, is established through sincere devotion,
Who on earth would not attain the highest state of man, as you have, O king? Hear what I wish to say to render you a favor.
There is a maiden named Malayagandhinī, daughter of the Vidyādhara chief.
She has been seized by the powerful demon, son of Kapālaketu.
She now dwells in the city of Campakāvatī in the netherworld.
I saw her, bowed to her, and made my request; listen to what happened.
Absorbed in childish play, I was seized by him while I was terrified.
He can be slain in battle only by the blow of his own trident, and by no other means.
If some grateful person kills this wicked demon and saves me,
Whatever you wish to do here, protect me from the wicked demon; a young, wise devotee of Viṣṇu shall marry you, daughter.
Just as the word of a third-day guest is to be honored, so let this statement be fulfilled.
Thus, O king, from those words, he became devoted to Viṣṇu-bhakti.
