इति दुर्गे बलं शंसञ्छ्येनो रोषारुणेक्षणः
Thus, in the fortress, the strength was declared by the hawk, whose eyes were red with anger.
अथ पारावती दक्षा विपक्षक्षपणेक्षणम् 5.2.45.
Then Paravati, wise and possessing the gaze that destroys enemies, spoke.
तव दृग्विषयं प्राप्तः श्येनोऽयं प्रबलो रिपुः
This hawk, a powerful enemy, has entered the range of your sight.
स च तद्वाक्यमाकर्ण्य पारावत्याश्च सत्पतिः
And hearing those words, the husband of Paravati also listened.
पारावत उवाच कति नाम न संतीह सुभगे व्योमचारिणः
Paravata said: O fortunate one, how many are there here who travel the sky?
कति चैव न पश्यंति नौ सुखस्थाविह प्रिये
And how many do not see us, who are happy here, my beloved?
इत्थं पारावतवराच्छुत्वा पारावती वचः
Having heard the words of Paravata, Paravati replied in turn.
हितवत्योपदिश्यापि प्रियं प्रियचिकीर्षया
Though she gave good advice, wishing to do what was dear for her beloved.
अन्येद्युरप्यथायातः श्येनः पश्यन्स दंपती
On the next day, the hawk again arrived, seeing the couple.
अथ मंडलगत्या स प्रासादं परितो भ्रमन्
Then, moving in circles, he flew around the palace.
तस्या वाक्यं समाकर्ण्य पुनः कलरवोऽब्रवीत् 5.2.45.
Hearing her words, he again uttered a loud cry.
दुर्गं च स्वर्गतुल्यं मे यत्र नास्त्यरितो भयम्
For me, this fortress is like heaven, where there is no fear from here.
प्रडीनोड्डीनसंडीनकांडव्यांडकपाटिका
With nests, eggs, chicks, and shells scattered about.
यथैतासु हि कौशल्यं मयि वर्त्तति च प्रिये सुखेन तिष्ठ का चिंचा मयि जीवति ते प्रिये
Just as skill exists in these, so it exists in me, my dear; live happily, O Cinca, while I live, my beloved.
इति तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा आस्थिता मूकवत्सती कियदंतरमासाद्य उपविष्टोऽतिहृष्टवत्।। आयामांते च स स्थित्वा तत्कुलायकुलस्य च
Hearing those words, she remained silent like a mute; after reaching a little distance, he sat down, exceedingly delighted. At the end of the approach, he stood there, and also at the nest of their family.
पुनः श्येनो विनिर्यातः सापि कांताऽब्रवीत्पुनः
Again the hawk departed, and the beloved spoke once more.
असौ क्रूरोऽतिनिकटमुपविष्टोऽतिहृष्टवत्
That cruel one sat very close, exceedingly delighted.
मृगाक्षीणां स्वभावोयं प्रायशो भीरुवृत्तयः
This is the nature of doe-eyed women: mostly, they are timid in their ways.
तयोरभिमुखं तत्र स्थितो यामद्वयावधि
He stood there facing the two, until the end of the second watch of the night.
गतेथ शकुनौ तस्मिन्सा बभाषे विहंगमम् 5.2.45.
When the two birds had departed from there, she spoke to the bird.
पुनर्दृष्टे प्रणष्टः स्यादावासश्च सुखं प्रिय
If, after being lost, one is seen again, then the home and happiness, dear one, return.
स किं स्वदेशरागेण नाशं प्राप्नोति बुद्धिमान्
Does not the wise man, out of love for his own land, meet with destruction?
स पंगुर्ना शमाप्नोति कूलस्थित इव द्रुमः
He, though crippled, does not find peace, like a tree standing on the riverbank.
तां वाक्यं पुनरप्याह प्रिये मा भैः खगार्दिता
Again he spoke these words: 'Beloved, do not fear, distressed bird.'
तद्द्वारदेशमासाद्य सायं यावत्स्थितोऽचलः
Reaching the entrance to that place, he stood unmoving until evening.
कुलायाद्बाह्यमागत्योवाच पारावती पतिम्
Coming out from the nest, the female dove spoke to her husband.
यावत्तावद्विनिर्याहि त्यक्त्वा मामपि शंसिनीम्
Go out now, leaving even me, who am warning you.
पुनर्दाराः पुनः पुत्राः पुनर्वसु पुनर्गृहम्
Wives return, sons return, wealth returns, and home returns again.
तदा सर्वं हरिश्चंद्रभूपतेरिव लभ्यते
Then everything is regained, as it was for King Harishchandra.
धर्मार्थकाममोक्षाणामयमात्मार्जकः परः 5.2.45.
He who pursues righteousness, wealth, pleasure, and liberation, truly earns the highest self.
