एवं भविष्यतीत्युक्त्वा मेघं चोत्तरमुक्तवान्
Saying, 'So it shall be,' he then addressed the cloud named Uttara.
तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तत्र ह्युत्तरः प्राह हर्षितः
Hearing those words there, Uttara spoke joyfully.
यदास्माकं महाबाधां कदा कोपि करिष्यति
Whenever someone causes us great distress—
रक्षा कार्या च मेघानां रक्षणीयास्त्वया वयम्
Protection must be given to the clouds; you must protect us.
अद्यप्रभृति ते नाम्ना ख्यातिं यास्यामि भूतले.
From today onward, I will become renowned on earth by your name.
ये मां संपूजयिष्यंति भक्त्या परमया युताः
Those who worship me with utmost devotion—
पश्यंति प्रयता ये मां कृत्वा नियमपूर्वकम्
Those who see me with effort, having observed proper discipline—
आरूढाः सूर्यसंकाशैर्विमानैः सार्वकामिकैः
They ascend celestial chariots radiant like the sun, fulfilling all desires.
नृत्य वादित्रनिर्घुष्टैरुत्कटध्वनिनादितैः
With the sound of dance and instruments, resounding with intense noise—
प्रसंगाद्भक्तिहीनोऽपि यो मां पश्यत्यशाठ्यतः 5.2.44.
Even one without devotion, who sees me sincerely, without deceit, due to association—
स्मरिष्यति च यो नित्यं प्रभाते चोत्तरेश्वरम्
And whoever remembers Uttareśvara every morning—
एष ते कथितो देवि प्रभावः पापनाशनः
This, O Devi, is the power I have described to you, which destroys sin.
श्रीदेवदेव उवाच । यस्य दर्शनमात्रेण सर्वसिद्धिरवाप्यते
Sri Devadeva said: By merely beholding him, all accomplishments are attained.
इतिहासमिहासीद्यत्पीठे विरजसंज्ञके
It is this ancient story that took place at the seat called Viraja.
नानाभंगिगवाक्षाढ्ये रत्नसानाविवापरे
Adorned with many kinds of windows and arches, like peaks studded with jewels.
पार्वणेन शशांकेन खेदादिव समासिते
With the full moon shining above, as if wearied by its own brilliance.
प्रातः सायं च मध्याह्ने कुर्व न्नित्यप्रदक्षिणम्
Morning, evening, and midday, one should always circumambulate it.
रजःप्रासादसंलग्नं दूरीकुर्वद्दिशो दश त्रिविष्टपेति च तथा तयोः कर्णातिथीभवेत्
The dust clinging to the palace drives away the ten directions; thus, it is called Trivishtapa, and whoever hears of it becomes a guest to the ear.
चतुर्विधानि वाद्यानि शंभुप्रीतिकराण्यलम्
Four kinds of musical instruments, pleasing to Shambhu, resound there abundantly.
मंगलारात्रिकज्योतिस्त्रिसंध्यं पक्षिणोस्तयोः
Auspicious lamps for the night, and the three daily rituals at dawn, noon, and dusk, are performed for those two birds.
प्राणयात्रां विहायापि कदाचित्स्थिरमानसौ
Even forsaking the sustenance of life, at times, with steady mind—
तत्रासकृज्जनाकीर्णं प्रासादं परितोऽवनौ 5.2.45.
There, the temple is always surrounded by crowds of people on all sides of the earth.
देवदक्षिणदिग्भागे विष्णुदेहोद्भवं जलम्
On the southern side of the temple, there is water that arose from Vishnu's body.
तयोरित्थं विचरतोस्त्रिलोचनसमीपतः
As those two wandered thus, near the Three-eyed One—
अथ देवालयस्कंधे गवाक्षांतर्गतौ च तौ
Then, on the temple's shoulder, those two entered through a window.
तच्च पारावतद्वंद्वं श्येनः परिजिघृक्षया
That pair of doves was then seized by a hawk, wishing to capture them.
ततो विलोकयामास तदागमविनिर्गमौ
Then he observed their entry and exit from that place.
केनाध्वना च निर्यातः किंकाले कुरुतश्च किम्
By which path did they depart, at what time, and what were they doing?
दुर्बलोऽप्याकलयितुं सहसारिर्न शक्यते
Even a weak enemy cannot quickly discern it.
न कर्म सिद्ध्येन्नृपतेर्दुगेणैकेन यद्भवेत् स्वतंत्रं यदि दुर्गं स्यादपमार्गप्रकाशकम्
A king's task cannot succeed with just one fortress; if the fortress is independent, it reveals hidden paths.
