By whom has this vile deed been done, that my father, though blameless, has perished?
Lamenting thus, with many kinds of pitiful cries,
He quickly took water and performed the funeral rites for his father in the fire.
My father was slain by someone learned and devoted to his own duty.
Meanwhile, the king was afflicted with leprosy.
Despite using many medicines, his condition worsened due to the power of a Brahmin’s curse.
As he was preparing to build the funeral pyre, the sage Nārada arrived.
Then that king, Luṃpa, questioned the eminent sage Nārada: 'I am greatly afflicted by this, and he does not find peace.'
'Why does his disease increase with medicines? You ought to explain this.'
Hearing these words of King Luṃpa, Nārada replied.
Then the king, together with his wife, earnestly requested Nārada.
Thus addressed by Luṃpa, the venerable sage Nārada spoke.
In the great Kāla forest, O king, there is a supreme liṅga that removes leprosy.
It is situated on the beautiful bank of the Śiprā, to the east of Keśavārka.
Thus instructed, Luṃpa hastened there with great speed.
The king arrived at that place, resplendent like heaven, adorned by the river Śiprā.
After bathing in the holy waters of the Śiprā, which destroy great sins,
He was freed from leprosy and also released from the sin of killing a Brahmin.
There, the king spent a single night.
Then, having been blessed by those great ascetics, he performed the rites of auspicious departure.
O lotus-faced one, at that time, the name of that liṅga will be Lumpeśvara, and it will become renowned on earth.
Those who worship the supreme liṅga Lumpeśvara with devotion—
—and those who earnestly desire and pray in their hearts for cherished wishes—
Even one burdened with great sins, who beholds it with focused mind—
—whether a slayer of cows, ungrateful, a mother-killer, or one who violates the teacher’s bed—
—by seeing Lumpeśvara even once, is freed from all sins.
Having spoken thus, all the sages, filled with joy, began to worship.
O Goddess, this power of sin-destruction has been described to you.
By merely seeing it, one obtains the fruit of all sacred waters.
The goddess Gaṅgā, the threefold-flowing river, began her course from the foot.
