Absorbed in meditation and contemplation, he was addressed by us with respect.
You have attained the imperishable state by seeing the liṅga; because of the name Kuṇḍeśvara, it always bestows all prosperity.
Whoever, with devotion, beholds Kuṇḍeśvara, the beginningless one,
He always obtains the fruit of all gifts and the merit of all sacred waters.
Of ten horse sacrifices and a hundred Agniṣṭoma rituals,
Those who, with devotion and proper observance, behold in the morning—
This, O Goddess, I have told you—the power that destroys sin.
On earth, there was one known by the name Luṃpeśvara.
In a land crowded with groups of mlecchas, he became lord of the world.
He had a beloved wife, named Viśālā.
That king, desiring battle, questioned the foremost of twice-born men.
Then, in an āśrama, a certain chanting Brahmin told him something.
Thereupon, the king set out, together with thousands of mlecchas.
Surrounded by fierce bandits, his senses agitated by anger,
He was honored by the sage with offerings such as madhuparka.
He suddenly made a request, but the sage did not grant it; then, before the sage’s eyes, he destroyed the entire forest.
Seeing the cow being tormented, and the calf extremely distressed,
As the chief of Brahmins spoke thus, he struck him with sharp arrows.
Again and again, like one bereft, he lamented, 'My son, my son!'
Meanwhile, the son approached, carrying sacrificial fuel; seeing the great-souled, innocent one, he wept in deep sorrow.
By whom has this vile deed been done, that my father, though blameless, has perished?
Lamenting thus, with many kinds of pitiful cries,
He quickly took water and performed the funeral rites for his father in the fire.
My father was slain by someone learned and devoted to his own duty.
Meanwhile, the king was afflicted with leprosy.
Despite using many medicines, his condition worsened due to the power of a Brahmin’s curse.
As he was preparing to build the funeral pyre, the sage Nārada arrived.
Then that king, Luṃpa, questioned the eminent sage Nārada: 'I am greatly afflicted by this, and he does not find peace.'
'Why does his disease increase with medicines? You ought to explain this.'
Hearing these words of King Luṃpa, Nārada replied.
