On the banks of the sacred Suvarnamukharī river, the great Shankara is revered as Kalahasti. In Kanchi, beneath the ancient mango tree, he is known as Kamashasana, beloved consort of Kamakshi. There exists a place called Vyaghrapura, nestled amidst the region of Tillikanana. The holy site of Shvetaranya, which I have spoken of before, stands resplendent, and it was there that Rāghava extolled the Setubandha. At Gatapratyāhvaya, the Bull-bannered One, Shiva himself, abides. In the land of Vṛddhācala flows a river gleaming with jewels and pearls. You have heard of the most excellent Śrīmad-Madhyārjuna, a place of great sanctity. Somatīrtha, established by Somanātha, is famed for its holiness. The field of Siddhavaṭa, too, is renowned, and surely you know of Kamalālaya, another sacred ground. Kaṃkādri is the mountain where Hara is ever-present. In illustrious Droṇapura, at the end of the Kali age, significant events unfold. The field called Brahmapura is remembered for Indrajit’s presence, while the field of knowledge, Śrīkoṭikā, is where Induśekhara dwells. Gokarṇa is another holy place where Shiva resides, and Tripurāntaka is the field where Triyaṃbaka is honored. At Kālāñjana, Kālakaṃdhara is found, and Priyālavaṇa is the domain of Ambikāpati. Prabhāsa is sanctified by Khaṇḍenduśekhara, and Vedāraṇya is where the leader of the Pramathas dwells. Hemakūṭa is the abode of Viṣamacakṣus, and Venuvana is known to destroy sin. Jalandhara, shrouded in darkness, is another sacred site, as is Jvalamukha, which I have already described. Bhadravata is a holy field, and in the Nyagrodha forest, the fierce one was born. Gandhamadana is a sacred place, and Goparvata is renowned as Shambhu’s abode. Virakostha is another site of sanctity, and there is a great pilgrimage place where Shambhu is ever-present. Mayurapura, the sacred place of Maheśvara, is famed, and on the banks of the Vegavati river lies the holy field of Shri Sundara. Kumbhakonam is known as the place of Shambhu, where the goddess resides. Tryambaka, named for its location on the southern Godavari, is another revered site. O best knower of the Vedas, I have described Shri Patala and Vyaghrapura to you. Kadambapuri is a sacred field you have understood, and Avinasha is where Vrishadhvaja dwells. O sinless one, Raktaikanana is a sacred field I have described, and Shri Hatakeshvara, situated in the netherworld, is another holy site you have heard of. Thus, the many sacred places where Shiva and his divine forms are worshipped have been revealed to you, each radiant with its own glory and sanctity.
