तदष्टभागः प्रस्थः स्यात्तच्चतुःकुडवं मतम् दशप्रस्थं शतप्रस्थं सहस्रप्रस्थमेव च
One-eighth of a prastha is considered a prastha; that is regarded as four kuḍavas, ten prasthas, a hundred prasthas, and even a thousand prasthas.
जलतैलादिगंधानां यथायोग्यं च मानतः मानुषार्षस्वयंभूनां महापूजेति कथ्यते
For water, oil, and other fragrant substances, the measure should be as appropriate; for humans, sages, and the self-born, this is described as the great worship.
अभिषेकादात्मशुद्धिर्गंधात्पुण्यमवाप्यते आयुस्तृप्तिश्च नैवेद्याद्धूपादर्थमवाप्यते
From the ablution comes self-purification; from fragrance, merit is obtained; from the food offering, one gains longevity and satisfaction; from incense, one attains purpose.
दीपाज्ज्ञानमवाप्नोति तांबूलाद्भोगमाप्नुयात् तस्मात्स्नानादिकं षट्कं प्रयत्नेन प्रसाधयेत्
From the lamp, one attains knowledge; from betel, one obtains enjoyment; therefore, one should diligently prepare the sixfold ritual beginning with bathing.
नमस्कारो जपश्चैव सर्वाभीष्टप्रदावुभौ पूजान्ते च सदाकार्यौ भोगमोक्षार्थिभिर्नरैः
Salutation and recitation both grant all desired results; at the end of worship, they should always be performed by those seeking enjoyment or liberation.
संपूज्य मनसा पूर्वं कुर्यात्तत्तत्सदा नरः देवानां पूजया चैव तत्तल्लोकमवाप्नुयात्
Having first worshipped with the mind, one should always perform each act; and by worshipping the gods, one attains the corresponding world.
तदवांतरलोके च यथेष्टं भोग्यमाप्यते तद्विशेषान्प्रवक्ष्यामि शृणुत श्रद्धया द्विजाः
In that intermediate world, one enjoys as desired; I will explain those distinctions—listen with faith, O twice-born.
विघ्नेशपूजया सम्यग्भूर्लोके ऽभीष्टमाप्नुयात् शुक्रवारे चतुर्थ्यां च सिते श्रावणभाद्रके
By properly worshipping Vighneśa, one attains desired things in the earthly world, especially on a Friday or on the fourth day in the bright half of Śrāvaṇa or Bhādrapada.
भिषगृक्षे धनुर्मासे विघ्नेशं विधिवद्यजेत् शतं पूजासहस्रं वा तत्संख्याकदिनैर्व्रजेत्
In the constellation of the physician, in the month of Dhanu, one should worship Vighneśa according to rule; whether a hundred or a thousand worships, one should complete them in the corresponding number of days.
देवाग्निश्रद्धया नित्यं पुत्रदं चेष्टदं नृणाम् सर्वपापप्रशमनं तत्तद्दुरितनाशनम्
With faith, worship of the gods and fire always grants sons and desired things to men, removes all sins, and destroys every misfortune.
वारपूजांशिवादीनामात्मशुद्धिप्रदां विदुः तीथिनक्षत्रयोगानामाधारं सार्वकामिकम्
The worship of Śiva and others on the days of the week is known to bestow self-purification; it is the foundation for all desired results regarding lunar days, stars, and conjunctions.
तथा बृद्धिक्षयाभावात्पूर्णब्रह्मात्मकं विदुः उदयादुदयं वारो ब्रह्मप्रभृति कर्मणाम्
Likewise, due to the absence of increase or decrease, it is known as complete and of the nature of Brahman; from sunrise to sunrise, the day is the basis for actions beginning with Brahma.
तिथ्यादौ देवपूजा हि पूर्णभोगप्रदा नृणाम् पूर्वभागः पित्ःणां तु निशि युक्तः प्रशस्यते
On the lunar day and so on, worship of the gods grants complete enjoyment to men; the earlier part is for the ancestors, especially at night, and is praised.
परभागस्तु देवानां दिवा युक्तः प्रशास्यते उदयव्यापिनी ग्राह्या मध्याह्ने यदि सा तिथिः
The later part is for the gods, especially during the day, and is commended; if the lunar day extends to sunrise, it should be taken at midday.
देवकार्ये तथा ग्राह्यास्थिति ऋक्षादिकाः शुभाः सम्यग्विचार्य वारादीन्कुर्यात्पूजाजपादिकम्
In matters concerning the gods, one should properly consider auspicious times such as constellations and the like, and then perform worship, recitation, and related rites on the appropriate days.
पूजार्यते ह्यनेनेति वेदेष्वर्थस्य योजना पूर्णभोगफलसिद्धिश्च जायते तेन कर्मणा
It is said in the Vedas that worship is performed by this means; by applying the intended meaning, fulfillment of enjoyment and attainment of results arise from that action.
मनोभावांस्तथा ज्ञानमिष्टभोगार्थयोजनात् पूजाशब्दर्थ एवं हि विश्रुतो लोकवेदयोः
The term 'worship' is renowned in both worldly and Vedic contexts as the application of mental attitude and knowledge for the sake of desired enjoyment.
नित्यनैमित्तिकं कालात्सद्यः काम्ये स्वनुष्ठिते नित्यं मासं च पक्षं च वर्षं चैव यथाक्रमम्
Obligatory and occasional rites are to be performed at their proper times; rites for specific desires are to be done immediately, while obligatory ones are performed daily, monthly, fortnightly, or yearly, as appropriate.
तत्तत्कर्मफलप्राप्तिस्तादृक्पापक्षयः क्रमात् महागणपतेः पूजा चतुर्थ्यां कृष्णपक्षके
The results of each action are attained accordingly, and sins are gradually destroyed; the worship of Mahāgaṇapati is to be performed on the fourth day of the dark fortnight.
पक्षपापक्षयकरी पक्षभोगफलप्रदा चैत्रे चतुर्थ्यां पूजा च कृता मासफलप्रदा
This worship removes the sins of the fortnight and grants the fruits of the fortnight's enjoyments; when performed on the fourth day in Caitra, it bestows the results of the month.
वर्षभोगप्रदा ज्ञेया कृता वै सिंहभाद्रके श्रवण्यादित्यवारे च सप्तम्यां हस्तभे दिने
When performed in Siṃha or Bhādrapada, it is known to grant the fruits of the year; on the seventh day, when the star Hasta falls on a Sunday from Śravaṇa onwards, worship is to be performed.
माघशुक्ले च सप्तम्यामादित्ययजनं चरेत् ज्येष्ठभाद्रकसौम्ये च द्वादश्यां श्रवर्णक्षके
On the seventh day of the bright half of Māgha, one should perform worship of the Sun; in Jyeṣṭha or Bhādrapada, on a Monday, on the twelfth day when the star Śravaṇa is present, worship is to be done.
द्वादश्यां विष्णुयजनमिष्टंसंपत्करं विदुः श्रावणे विष्णुयजनमिष्टारोग्यप्रदं भवेत्
On the twelfth day, worship of Viṣṇu is considered auspicious and brings prosperity; in Śrāvaṇa, worship of Viṣṇu is especially known to bestow desired health.
गवादीन्द्वादशानर्थान्सांगान्दत्वा तु यत्फलम् तत्फलं समवाप्नोति द्वादश्यां विष्णुतर्पणात्
By giving twelve items such as cows, with all their accessories, one attains the same result as by offering oblation to Viṣṇu on the twelfth day.
द्वादश्यां द्वादशान्विप्रान्विष्णोर्द्वादशनामतः षोडशैरुपचारैश्च यजेत्तत्प्रीतिमाप्नुयात्
On the twelfth day, one should worship twelve Brāhmaṇas, representing the twelve names of Viṣṇu, with sixteen offerings; thereby one attains his favor.
एवं च सर्वदेवानां तत्तद्द्वादशनामकैः द्वादशब्रह्मयजनं तत्तत्प्रीतिकरं भवेत्
In this way, worship of all the gods with their respective twelve names, and the twelvefold worship of Brahmā, becomes pleasing to each deity.
कर्कटे सोमवारे च नवम्यां मृगशीर्षके अंबां यजेद्भूतिकामः सर्वभोगफलप्रदाम्
In the month of Karkaṭa, on a Monday, on the ninth day when the star Mṛgaśīrṣa is present, one who desires prosperity should worship the Mother, who bestows all fruits of enjoyment.
आश्वयुक्छुक्लनवमी सर्वाभीष्टफलप्रदा आदिवारे चतुर्दश्यां कृष्णपक्षे विशेषतः
The ninth day of the bright half of Āśvayuja grants all desired results; especially on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight, when it falls on a Sunday.
आर्द्रायां च महार्द्रायां शिवपूजा विशिष्यते माघकृष्णचतुर्दश्यां सर्वाभीष्टफलप्रदा
On the day of Ārdrā or Mahārdrā, worship of Śiva is especially praised; on the fourteenth day of the dark half of Māgha, it bestows all desired results.
आयुष्करी मृत्युहरा सर्वसिद्धिकरी नृणाम् ज्येष्ठमासे महार्द्रायां चतुर्दशीदिनेपि च
It grants long life, removes death, and bestows all accomplishments for people; in the month of Jyeṣṭha, on the day of Mahārdrā and on the fourteenth day as well.
