तथापि क्षुद्रमुद्दिश्य फलं नैतत्प्रयोजयेत् लघ्वर्थी महतो यस्मात्स्वयं लघुतरो भवेत्
Even so, one should not employ this for a small result; for if one aims at something minor, one becomes lesser than what is great.
महद्वा फलमल्पं वा कृतं चेत्कर्म सिध्यति महादेवं समुद्दिश्य कृतं कर्म प्रयुज्यताम्
Whether the result is great or small, if the act is performed, it succeeds; let actions be undertaken with Mahadeva as their aim.
तस्मादनन्यलभ्येषु शत्रुमृत्युंजयादिषु फलेषु दृष्टादृष्टेषु कुर्यादेतद्विचक्षणः
Therefore, for results unattainable otherwise—such as victory over enemies or conquering death, whether visible or invisible—the wise should perform this.
महत्स्वपि च पातेषु महारागभयादिषु दुर्भिक्षादिषु शांत्यर्थं शांतिं कुर्यादनेन तु
Even in great calamities—such as intense passion, fear, famine, and so forth—one should perform this rite for the purpose of peace.
बहुना किं प्रलापेन महाव्यापन्निवारकम् आत्मीयमस्त्रं शैवानामिदमाह महेश्वरः
What need is there for much talk? This is the weapon taught by Maheshvara to the Shaivas for averting great afflictions.
तस्मादितः परं नास्ति परित्राणमिहात्मनः इति मत्वा प्रयुंजानः कर्मेदं शुभमश्नुते
Therefore, beyond this, there is no other protection for oneself here; thinking thus, whoever performs this action attains auspiciousness.
स्तोत्रमात्रं शुचिर्भूत्वा यः पठेत्सुसमाहितः सोप्यभीष्टतमादर्थादष्टांशफलमाप्नुयात्
Whoever, purified and focused, recites only the hymn, even for the most desired purpose, attains one-eighth of the result.
अर्थं तस्यानुसन्धाय पर्वण्यनशनः पठेत् अष्टाभ्यां वा चतुर्दश्यां फलमर्धं समाप्नुयात्
Reciting it with intent for the purpose, fasting on festival days, or on the eighth or fourteenth lunar day, one attains half the result.
यस्त्वर्थमनुसंधाय पर्वादिषु तथा व्रती मासमेकं जपेत्स्तोत्रं स कृत्स्नं फलमाप्नुयात्
Whoever, intent on the purpose, observes a vow during festival days and recites the hymn for one month, attains the full result.
स्तोत्रं वक्ष्यामि ते कृष्ण पञ्चावरणमार्गतः योगेश्वरमिदं पुण्यं कर्म येन समाप्यते
I will declare to you the hymn, O Krishna, according to the path of the five coverings; this sacred act, by which yoga is accomplished.
जय जय जगदेकनाथ शंभो प्रकृतिमनोहर नित्यचित्स्वभाव अतिगतकलुषप्रपञ्चवाचामपि मनसां पदवीमतीततत्त्वम्
Victory, victory to you, sole Lord of the world, Shambhu, enchanting the nature; eternal consciousness by essence, transcending the reach of impure worldly speech and even the paths of minds, surpassing all reality.
स्वभावनिर्मलाभोग जय सुन्दरचेष्टित स्वात्मतुल्यमहाशक्ते जय शुद्धगुणार्णव
Victory to you, whose nature is pure enjoyment, whose actions are beautiful; whose supreme power is equal to your own self; victory to you, ocean of pure qualities.
अनन्तकांतिसंपन्न जयासदृशविग्रह अतर्क्यमहिमाधार जयानाकुलमंगल
Victory to you, endowed with infinite radiance, whose form is incomparable; whose greatness is unfathomable; victory to you, source of untroubled auspiciousness.
निरंजन निराधार जय निष्कारणोदय निरन्तरपरानन्द जय निर्वृतिकारण
Victory to you, stainless, without support; victory to you, arising without cause; victory to you, uninterrupted supreme bliss; victory to you, cause of liberation.
जयातिपरमैश्वर्य जयातिकरुणास्पद जय स्वतंत्रसर्वस्व जयासदृशवैभव
Victory to you, of supreme sovereignty; victory to you, abode of supreme compassion; victory to you, whose independence is complete; victory to you, whose glory is unmatched.
जयावृतमहाविश्व जयानावृत केनचित् जयोत्तर समस्तस्य जयात्यन्तनिरुत्तर
Victory to you, who envelops the great universe; victory to you, whom none envelops; victory to you, who is beyond all; victory to you, who is utterly unsurpassed.
जयाद्भुत जयाक्षुद्र जयाक्षत जयाव्यय जयामेय जयामाय जयाभाव जयामल
Victory to you, wondrous; victory to you, never small; victory to you, unbroken; victory to you, imperishable; victory to you, immeasurable; victory to you, beyond illusion; victory to you, beyond absence; victory to you, stainless.
महाभुज महासार महागुण महाकथ महाबल महामाय महारस महारथ
Great-armed, of great essence, of great qualities, of great narrative, of great strength, of great illusion, of great flavor, of great chariot.
नमः परमदेवाय नमः परमहेतवे नमश्शिवाय शांताय नमश्शिवतराय ते
Salutations to the Supreme God, salutations to the Supreme Cause, salutations to you, O Auspicious One, O Peaceful One, salutations to you who are even more auspicious.
त्वदधीनमिदं कृत्स्नं जगद्धि ससुरासुरम्
Indeed, this entire universe, with gods and asuras, is dependent upon you.
अतस्त्वद्विहितामाज्ञां क्षमते को ऽतिवर्तितुम्
Therefore, who could possibly transgress a command established by you?
अयं पुनर्जनो नित्यं भवदेकसमाश्रयः भवानतो ऽनुगृह्यास्मै प्रार्थितं संप्रयच्छतु
This person, always taking refuge in you alone, should be favored by you and granted what he requests.
जयांबिके जगन्मातर्जय सर्वजगन्मयि जयानवधिकैश्वर्ये जयानुपमविग्रहे
Victory to you, O Ambika, Mother of the world! Victory to you, who are the essence of all creation! Victory to you, whose sovereignty is unsurpassed! Victory to you, whose form is without equal!
जय वाङ्मनसातीते जयाचिद्ध्वांतभंजिके जय जन्मजराहीने जय कालोत्तरोत्तरे
Victory to you, who transcend speech and mind! Victory to you, who dispel the darkness of ignorance! Victory to you, who are free from birth and old age! Victory to you, who surpass even time itself!
जयानेकविधानस्थे जय विश्वेश्वरप्रिये जय विश्वसुराराध्ये जय विश्वविजृंभिणि
Victory to you, who dwell in manifold forms! Victory to you, beloved of the Lord of the universe! Victory to you, worshipped by all the gods! Victory to you, who expand throughout the cosmos!
जय मंगलदिव्यांगि जय मंगलदीपिके जय मंगलचारित्रे जय मंगलदायिनि
Victory to you, whose limbs are auspicious and divine! Victory to you, who are the lamp of auspiciousness! Victory to you, whose conduct is auspicious! Victory to you, who bestow auspiciousness!
नमः परमकल्याणगुणसंचयमूर्तये त्वत्तः खलु समुत्पन्नं जगत्त्वय्येव लीयते
Salutations to the embodiment of the highest, most auspicious qualities! Truly, the universe arises from you and dissolves back into you.
त्वद्विनातः फलं दातुमीश्वरोपि न शक्नुयात् जन्मप्रभृति देवेशि जनोयं त्वदुपाश्रितः
Even the Lord himself could not grant a fruit withheld by you; from birth, O Goddess of the gods, this person has sought refuge in you.
अतो ऽस्य तव भक्तस्य निर्वर्तय मनोरथम् पञ्चवक्त्रो दशभुजः शुद्धस्फटिकसन्निभः
Therefore, fulfill the wish of this devotee of yours: the Five-faced, Ten-armed one, pure and shining like crystal.
वर्णब्रह्मकलादेहो देवस्सकलनिष्कलः शिवभक्तिसमारूढः शांत्यतीतस्सदाशिवः भक्त्या मयार्चितो मह्यं प्रार्थितं शं प्रयच्छतु
The god whose body is formed of the syllables of Brahman, both with and without parts, established in devotion to Shiva, transcending peace, the eternal Sadaśiva—worshipped by me with devotion—may he grant me what I have requested.
