उपांशूच्चारयोगेन जुहुयादाहुतित्रयम् पुनस्संपूज्य देवेशं मन्त्रवैकल्यशुद्धये
With the practice of muttered recitation, he should offer three oblations; then, having worshipped the Lord of gods again, for the purification of mantra deficiencies.
मानसोच्चारयोगेन जुहुयादाहुतित्रयम् तत्र शंभुं समाराध्य मंडलस्थं सहांबया हुत्वाहुतित्रयं पश्चात्प्रार्थयेत्प्रांजलिर्गुरुः
With the practice of mental recitation, he should offer three oblations; there, having worshipped Śambhu, present in the maṇḍala with Ambā, and having offered three oblations, the teacher should then pray with joined palms.
भगवंस्त्वत्प्रसादेन शुद्धिरस्य षडध्वनः कृता तस्मात्परं धाम गमयैनं तवाव्ययम्
O Lord, by your grace, the purification of his six paths has been accomplished; therefore, lead him to your supreme, imperishable abode.
इति विज्ञाप्य देवाय नाडीसंधानपूर्वकम् पूर्णांतं पूर्ववत्कृत्वा ततो भूतानि शोधयेत्
Thus informing the deity, and having performed the sealing of the channels as before, one should then purify the elements.
स्थिरास्थिरे ततः शुद्ध्यै शीतोष्णे च ततः पदे ध्यायेद्व्याप्त्यैकताकारे भूतशोधनकर्मणि
For the purification of the stable and unstable, and of cold and heat in their place, one should meditate on their unity and pervasiveness during the element purification rite.
भूतानां ग्रंथिविच्छेदं कृत्वा त्यक्त्वा सहाधिपैः भूतानि स्थितयोगेन यो जपेत्परमे शिवे
Having cut the knots of the elements and abandoned them along with their lords, whoever recites in union with the supreme Śiva purifies the elements.
विशोध्यास्य तनुं दग्ध्वा प्लावयित्वा सुधाकणैः स्थाप्यात्मानं ततः कुर्याद्विशुद्धाध्वमयं वपुः
Having purified his body, burned it, and flooded it with drops of nectar, one should then establish oneself and create a body composed of the purified paths.
तत्रादौ शान्त्यतीतां तु व्यापिकां स्वाध्वनः कलाम् शुद्धामेव शिशोर्मूर्ध्नि न्यसेच्छान्तिमुखे तथा
There, at the beginning, one should place the transcendent, all-pervading Śāntyatītā energy of one's own path, pure, on the child's head at the Śānti point.
विद्यां गलादिनाभ्यंतं प्रतिष्ठां तदधः क्रमात् जान्वंतं तदधो न्यस्येन्निवृत्तिं चानुचिंतयेत्
He should place the knowledge within, from the throat downward in order, establish it below that, then at the knees, and below that again; he should contemplate withdrawal accordingly.
स्वबीजैस्सूत्रमंत्रं च न्यस्यां गैस्तं शिवात्मकम् बुद्ध्वा तं हृदयांभोजे देवमावाह्य पूजयेत्
With his own seed-syllables and the thread-mantra, he should install that which is of the nature of Shiva with the appropriate gestures, realizing him in the lotus of the heart, invoke the deity and worship him.
आशास्य नित्यसांनिध्यं शिवस्वात्म्यं शिशौ गुरुः शिवतेजोमयस्यास्य शिशोरापादयेद्गुणान्
Having invoked the constant presence and the identity with Shiva in the disciple, the teacher should impart to this child, who is composed of Shiva's radiance, the divine qualities.
अणिमादीन्प्रसीदेति प्रदद्यादाहुतित्रयम् तथैव तु गुणानेव पुनरस्योपपादयेत्
He should offer three oblations, saying, 'May the perfections beginning with aṇimā be pleased,' and in the same way, again impart the qualities to him.
सर्वज्ञातां तथा तृप्तिं बोधं चाद्यन्तवर्जितम् अलुप्तशक्तिं स्वातन्त्र्यमनंतां शक्तिमेव च
He should bestow omniscience, satisfaction, knowledge free from beginning and end, unimpeded power, independence, infinity, and indeed the power itself.
ततो देवमनुज्ञाप्य सद्यादिकलशैस्तु तम् अभिषिंचेत देवेशं ध्यायन्हृदि यथाक्रमम्
Then, having obtained the deity's permission, he should anoint him with the principal and other ritual vessels, meditating in his heart on the Lord of Devas in the proper order.
अथोपवेश्य तं शिष्यं शिवमभ्यर्च्य पूर्ववत् लब्धानुज्ञः शिवाच्छैवीं विद्यामस्मै समादिशेत्
Then, seating the disciple, worshipping Shiva as before, and having received permission from Shiva, he should instruct him in the Shaiva knowledge.
ओंकारपूर्विकां तत्र संपुटान्तु नमो ऽंतगाम् शिवशक्तियुताञ्चैव शक्तिविद्यां च तादृशीम्
There, he should impart the mantra preceded by Om, enclosed with 'namah' at the end, united with Shiva and Shakti, and the Shakti-vidya of that kind.
ऋषिं छन्दश्च देवं च शिवतां शिवयोस्तथा पूजां सावरणां शम्भोरासनानि च सन्दिशेत्
He should indicate the seer, the meter, the deity, the state of Shiva and Shakti, the worship with offerings, and the seats of Shambhu.
पुनः संपूज्य देवेशं यन्मया समनुष्ठितम् सुकृतं कुरु तत्सर्वमिति विज्ञापयेच्छिवम्
Again, having worshipped the Lord of Devas, he should inform Shiva, 'All the auspicious acts performed by me—may you accept them.'
सहशिष्यो गुरुर्देवं दण्डवत्क्षितिमंडले प्रणम्योद्वासयेत्तस्मान्मंडलात्पावकादपि
Together with the disciple, the teacher should bow to the deity on the ground like a staff, and then dismiss him from the mandala and from the fire as well.
ततः सदसिकाः सर्वे पूज्याः पूजार्हकाः क्रमात्
Then, all the members of the assembly who are worthy of worship should be honored in due order.
सेव्या वित्तानुसारेण सदस्याश्च सहर्त्विजः वित्तशाठ्यं न कुर्वीत यदीच्छेच्छिवमात्मनः
The assembly members, along with the officiating priests, should be served according to one's means; one should not act with miserliness regarding wealth if one desires Shiva for oneself.
अतः परं प्रवक्ष्यामि साधकं नाम नामतः संस्कारमन्त्रमाहात्म्यं कथने सूचितं मया
Now I shall explain the rite called sādhaka, by name; the greatness of the mantra and the consecration have already been indicated by me in the explanation.
संपूज्य मंडले देवं स्थाप्य कुम्भे च पूर्ववत् हुत्वा शिष्यमनुष्णीषं प्रापयेद्भुवि मंडले
Having worshipped the deity in the mandala and installed him in the vessel as before, after offering oblations, he should bring the disciple, with head uncovered, to the mandala on the ground.
पूर्वांतं पूर्ववत्कृत्वा हुत्वाहुतिशतं तथा संतर्प्य मूलमन्त्रेण कलशैर्देशिकोत्तमः
Having performed the eastern part as before, and offering a hundred oblations in the same way, the best teacher should satisfy with the root-mantra using the ritual vessels.
सन्दीप्य च यथापूर्वं कृत्वा पूर्वोदितं क्रमात् अभिषिच्य यथापूर्वं प्रदद्यान्मन्त्रमुत्तमम्
Having kindled the fire as before, performing the previously described sequence, and anointing as before, he should impart the supreme mantra.
तत्र विद्योपदेशांतं कृत्वा विस्तरशः क्रमात् पुष्पाम्बुना शिशोः पाणौ विद्यां शैवीं समर्पयेत्
There, having completed the instruction of knowledge in detail and in order, he should offer the Shaiva knowledge into the hand of the disciple with flowers and water.
तवैहिकामुष्मिकयोः सर्वसिद्धिफलप्रदः भवत्येव महामन्त्रः प्रसादात्परमेष्ठिनः
By the grace of the Supreme Lord, this great mantra indeed bestows all attainments and fruits, both in this world and the next.
इत्युत्वा देवमभ्यर्च्य लब्धानुज्ञः शिवाद्गुरुः साधनं शिवयोगं च साधकाय समादिशेत्
Having spoken thus and worshipped the god, the guru, having received permission from Shiva, should instruct the aspirant in the practice and the discipline of Shiva-yoga.
तच्छ्रुत्वा गुरुसंदेशं क्रमशो मंत्रसाधकः पुरतो विनियोगस्य मन्त्रसाधनमाचरेत्
Hearing the guru’s command, the mantra-practitioner should then perform the prescribed ritual application of the mantra, step by step, in front of the guru.
साधनं मूलमन्त्रस्य पुरश्चरणमुच्यते पुरतश्चरणीयत्वाद्विनियोगाख्यकर्मणः
The preliminary rite for the root-mantra is called puraścaraṇa, because it is to be performed beforehand as the act known as viniyoga.
