प्रक्षाल्य दंतपवनं त्यक्त्वाचम्य शिवं स्मरेत् प्रविशेद्देशिकादिष्टः प्रांजलिः शिवमण्डलम्
Having rinsed and discarded the tooth-cleanser, and rinsed his mouth, he should remember Śiva, and, as instructed by the teacher, enter the Śiva maṇḍala with joined palms.
त्यक्तं तद्दन्तपवनं दृश्यते गुरुणा यदि प्रागुदक्पश्चिमे वाग्रे शिवमन्यच्छिवेतरम्
If the discarded tooth-cleanser is seen by the teacher to be in the east, north, or west, then he should offer the remainder to Śiva or another deity.
अशस्ताशामुखे तस्मिन्गुरुस्तद्दोषशांतये शतमर्धं तदर्धं वाजुहुयान्मूलमन्त्रतः
If it is in an inauspicious direction, the teacher, to remove that fault, should offer one hundred, fifty, or half of that oblations with the root mantra.
ततः शिष्यं समालभ्य जपित्वा कर्णयोः शिवम् देवस्य दक्षिणे भागे तं शिष्यमधिवासयेत्
Then, having embraced the disciple and recited the Śiva mantra in both ears, he should seat that disciple to the right side of the deity.
अहतास्तरणास्तीर्णे स दर्भशयने शुचिः मंत्रिते ऽन्तः शिवं ध्यायञ्शयीत प्राक्छिरा निशि
On a bed of darbha grass, which is clean and has not been used before, after it has been properly prepared and consecrated, one should lie down at night with the head facing east, maintaining purity, meditating inwardly on Shiva.
शिखायां बद्धसूत्रस्य शिखया तच्छिखां गुरुः आबध्याहतवस्त्रेण तमाच्छाद्य च वर्मणा
The teacher should tie the sacred thread into the tuft of hair of the disciple, binding it with the disciple’s own hair, and cover him with a cloth that has not been worn before, as well as with protective garments.
रेखात्रयं च परितो भस्मना तिलसर्षपैः कृत्वास्त्रजप्तैस्तद्वाह्ये दिगीशानां बलिं हरेत्
Around the bed, three lines should be drawn with ashes, sesame, and mustard seeds; after reciting protective mantras, offerings should be made outside these lines to the guardians of the directions.
शिष्यो ऽपि परतो ऽनश्नन्कृत्वैवमधिवासनम् प्रबुध्योत्थाय गुरवे स्वप्नं दृष्टं निवेदयेत्
The disciple, also lying nearby and fasting, having performed the prescribed preparation, should, upon awakening, rise and report to the teacher the dream he has seen.
ततः स्नानादिकं सर्वं समाप्याचार्यचोदितः गच्छेद्बद्धांजलिर्ध्यायञ्छिवमण्डलपार्श्वतः
Then, having completed all bathing and related rites as instructed by the teacher, one should approach the side of the Shiva mandala with hands joined, meditating on Shiva.
अथ पूजां विना सर्वं कृत्वा पूर्वदिने यथा नेत्रबंधनपर्यंतं दर्शयेन्मण्डलं गुरुः
Next, having performed everything except the worship, as done on the previous day up to the binding of the eyes, the teacher should reveal the mandala.
बद्धनेत्रेण शिष्येण पुष्पावकिरणे कृते यत्रापतंति पुष्णाणि तस्य नामा ऽस्य संदिशेत्
When the disciple, with eyes bound, scatters flowers, wherever the flowers fall, the teacher should indicate the name associated with that spot.
तं चोपनीय निर्माल्यमण्डले ऽस्मिन्यथा पुरा पूजयेद्देवमीशानं जुहुयाच्च शिवानले
Then, bringing the discarded offerings to the mandala as before, one should worship the Lord Ishana and also make offerings into the sacred fire of Shiva.
शिष्येण यदि दुःस्वप्नो दृष्टस्तद्दोषशांतये शतमर्धं तदर्धं वा जुहुयान्मूलविद्यया
If the disciple has seen a bad dream, to remove its ill effects, one should offer one hundred, fifty, or half of that oblations with the root mantra.
ततः सूत्रं शिखाबद्धं लंबयित्वा यथा पुरा आधारपूजाप्रभृति यन्निवृत्तिकलाश्रयम्
Then, as before, the thread tied in the hair should be allowed to hang down, and from the worship of the foundation onward, one should proceed according to the stages of cessation.
वागीश्वरीपूजनांतं कुर्याद्धोमपुरस्सरम् अथ प्रणम्य वागीशं निवृत्तेर्व्यापिकां सतीम्
One should perform the worship of Vagishvari up to its conclusion, preceded by oblations; then, having bowed to Vagisha, who is the pervasive cause of cessation, one should proceed.
मण्डले देवमभ्यर्च्य हुत्वा चैवाहुतित्रयम् प्रापयेच्च शिशोः प्राप्तिं युगपत्सर्वयोनिषु
Having worshipped the deity in the mandala and offered three oblations, one should grant the attainment of the child simultaneously in all wombs.
सूत्रदेहे ऽथ शिष्यस्य ताडनप्रोक्षणादिकम् कृत्वात्मानं समादाय द्वादशांते निवेद्य च
Then, for the disciple, one should perform striking, sprinkling, and other rites upon the thread-body; having taken up oneself, one should report at the twelfth segment.
ततो ऽप्यादाय मूलेन मुद्रया शास्त्रदृष्टया योजयेन्मनसाचार्यो युगपत्सर्वयोनिषु
Afterwards, taking the root with the gesture prescribed in the scripture, the teacher should mentally unite the disciple simultaneously with all wombs.
देवानां जातयश्चाष्टौ तिरश्चां पञ्च जातयः जात्यैकया च मानुष्या योनयश्च चतुर्दश
There are eight types of gods, five types of animals, and with one type of birth, fourteen types of human wombs.
तासु सर्वासु युगपत्प्रवेशाय शिशोर्धिया वागीशान्यां यथान्यायं शिष्यात्मानं निवेशयेत्
In all these, for simultaneous entry, the teacher should, according to proper method, establish the disciple’s self in the form of Vagishvari.
गर्भनिष्पत्तये देवं संपूज्य प्रणिपत्य च हुत्वा चैव यथान्यायं निष्पन्नं तदनुस्मरेत्
For the accomplishment of conception, one should worship the deity, bow down, and offer oblations as prescribed, then contemplate the accomplished result.
निष्पन्नस्यैवमुत्पत्तिमनुवृत्तिं च कर्मणा आर्जवं भोगनिष्पत्तिः कुर्यात्प्रीतिं परां तथा
For the accomplished one, one should perform rites for birth, continuation, honesty, attainment of enjoyment, and also supreme satisfaction.
निष्कृत्यर्थं च जात्यायुर्भोगसंस्कारसिद्धये हुत्वाहुतित्रयं देवं प्रार्थयेद्देशिकोत्तमः
For the purpose of expiation, and for the accomplishment of birth, lifespan, enjoyment, and rites, the eminent teacher should offer three oblations and then pray to the deity.
कृत्वैवमेव शिष्यस्य छिंद्यात्पाशत्रयं ततः
Having done thus, he should sever the three bonds of the disciple.
निकृत्या परि बद्धस्य पाशस्यात्यंतभेदतः कृत्वा शिष्यस्य चैतन्यं स्वच्छं मन्येत केवलम्
By removing, through the utmost distinction, the bonds that surround, he should regard the consciousness of the disciple as pure and solely itself.
हुत्वा पूर्णाहुतिं वह्नौ ब्रह्माणं पूजयेत्ततः हुत्वाहुतित्रयं तस्मै शिवाज्ञामनुसंदिशेत्
After offering the full oblation into the fire, he should worship Brahma; then, having offered three oblations, he should impart Shiva's command to him.
पितामह त्वया नास्य यातुः शैवं परं पदम् प्रतिबन्धो विधातव्यः शैवाज्ञैषा गरीयसी
O Grandfather, by you, the aspirant should not attain the supreme Shaiva state; an obstacle must be established, for this Shaiva command is weighty.
इत्यादिश्य तमभ्यर्च्य विसृज च विधानतः समभ्यर्च्य महादेवं जुहुयादाहुतित्रयम्
Having thus instructed him and worshipped him, he should formally release him; after worshipping Mahadeva, he should offer three oblations.
निवृत्त्या शुद्धमुद्धृत्य शिष्यात्मानं यथा पुरा निवेश्यात्मनि सूत्रे च वागीशं पूजयेत्ततः
Having drawn forth the purified self of the disciple by cessation, as before, he should establish it in himself and in the thread, and then worship Vāgīśa.
हुत्वाहुतित्रयं तस्मै प्रणम्य च विसृज्य ताम् कुर्यान्निवृत्तः संधानं प्रतिष्ठां कलया सह
Having offered three oblations to him, bowing and formally releasing, he should, having ceased, perform the joining and establish it with the art.
