स दृष्ट्वा मंडलं भूयः प्रणमेत्साञ्जलिः प्रभुम् अथासीनं शिवाचार्यो मंडलस्य तु दक्षिणे
Upon seeing the maṇḍala, the disciple should again bow to the Lord with joined palms; then the Śiva teacher, seated at the southern side of the maṇḍala,
उपवेश्यात्मनस्सव्ये शिष्यं दर्भासने गुरुः आराध्य च महादेवं शिवहस्तं प्रविन्यसेत्
should seat the disciple to his own left on a darbha seat; having worshipped Mahādeva, he should place the Śiva hand gesture.
शिवतेजोमयं पाणिं शिवमंत्रमुदीरयेत् शिवाभिमानसंपन्नो न्यसेच्छिष्यस्य मस्तके
Imbuing his hand with the radiance of Śiva, he should recite the Śiva mantra and, filled with devotion to Śiva, place his hand on the disciple's head.
सर्वांगालंबनं चैव कुर्यात्तेनैव देशिकः शिष्यो ऽपि प्रणमेद्भूमौ देशिकाकृतमीश्वरम्
The teacher should perform the full-body support gesture in the same way; the disciple should bow to the teacher, who has become as the Lord, by prostrating on the ground.
ततश्शिवानले देवं समभ्यर्च्य यथाविधि हुताहुतित्रयं शिष्यमुपवेश्य यथा पुरा
Then, having properly worshipped the Lord in the Śiva fire, and having seated the disciple as before after the threefold offering, he should proceed.
दर्भाग्रैः संस्पृशंस्तं च विद्ययात्मानमाविशेत् नमस्कृत्य महादेवं नाडीसंधानमाचरेत्
Touching the disciple with the tips of darbha grass, the teacher should enter into the disciple by means of knowledge; after bowing to Mahādeva, he should perform the joining of the channels.
शिवशास्त्रोक्तमार्गेण कृत्वा प्राणस्य निर्गमम् शिष्यदेहप्रवेशं च स्मृत्वा मंत्रांस्तु तर्पयेत्
Following the method taught in the Śiva scriptures, having caused the breath to exit and entered the disciple's body, he should then satisfy the mantras by remembrance.
संतर्पणाय मूलस्य तेनैवाहुतयो दश देयास्तिस्रस्तथांगानामंगैरेव यथाक्रमम्
For the satisfaction of the root mantra, ten offerings should be made in the same way, and likewise three for the limbs, each with their respective mantras in order.
ततः पूर्णाहुतिं दत्त्वा प्रायश्चित्ताय देशिकः पुनर्दशाहुतीन्कुर्यान्मूलमंत्रेण मंत्रवित्
Then, after making the full offering for expiation, the teacher, who knows the mantras, should again make ten offerings with the root mantra.
पुनः संपूज्य देवेशं सम्यगाचम्य देशिकः हुत्वा चैव यथान्यायं स्वजात्या वैश्यमुद्धरेत्
Again, having worshipped the Lord of gods and performed proper purification, the teacher, after making the offerings according to rule, should uplift the Vaiśya to his own caste.
तस्यैवं जनयेत्क्षात्रमुद्धारं च ततः पुनः कृत्वा तथैव विप्रत्वं जनयेदस्य देशिकः
In this way, he should generate the Kṣatriya status, and then again, in the same manner, the teacher should generate Brāhmaṇa status for him.
राजन्यं चैवमुद्धृत्य कृत्वा विप्रं पुनस्तयोः रुद्रत्वं जनयेद्विप्रे रुद्रनामैव साधयेत्
Having thus uplifted the Rājanya and made him a Brāhmaṇa, the teacher should then generate Rudra-hood in both; in the Brāhmaṇa, he should establish the name of Rudra.
प्रोक्षणं ताडनं कृत्वा शिशोस्स्वात्मानमात्मनि शिवात्मकमनुस्मृत्य स्फुरंतं विस्फुलिंगवत्
After sprinkling and striking the child, one should recall within oneself that one's own self is of the nature of Shiva, perceiving it as flashing like a spark.
नाड्या यथोक्तया वायुं रेचयेन्मंत्रतो गुरुः निर्गम्य प्रविशेन्नाड्या शिष्यस्य हृदयं तथा
With the prescribed method, the teacher should expel the breath through the channel as instructed, and then, through that channel, enter into the heart of the disciple.
प्रविश्य तस्य चैतन्यं नीलबिन्दुनिभं स्मरन् स्वतेजसापास्तमलं ज्वलंतमनुचिंतयेत्
Entering there, he should contemplate the consciousness of the disciple, remembering it as resembling a blue point, shining, purified of impurity by his own radiance.
तमादाय तया नाड्या मंत्री संहारमुद्रया न पूरकेण निवेश्यैनमेकीभावार्थमात्मनः
Taking that (consciousness) by means of that channel, the teacher, with the gesture of withdrawal, should not establish it with inhalation, but for the purpose of unification with his own self.
कुंभकेन तथा नाड्या रेचकेन यथा पुरा तस्मादादाय शिष्यस्य हृदये तन्निवेशयेत्
Then, with retention and again with exhalation through the channel as before, he should take it and establish it in the heart of the disciple.
तमालभ्य शिवाल्लब्धं तस्मै दत्त्वोपवीतकम् हुत्वा ऽ ऽहुतित्रयं पश्चाद्दद्यात्पूर्णाहुतिं ततः
Having obtained that from Shiva, he should give the sacred thread to him, and after offering three oblations, he should then give the full oblation.
देवस्य दक्षिणे शिष्यमुपवेश्यवरासने कुशपुष्पपरिस्तीर्णे बद्धांजलिरुदङ्मुखम्
Seating the disciple to the south of the deity on an excellent seat, covered with kusa grass and flowers, with hands joined and facing north.
स्वस्तिकासनमारूढं विधाय प्राङ्मुखः स्वयम् वरासनस्थितो मंत्रैर्महामंगलनिःस्वनैः
He himself, seated on the excellent seat facing east, having assumed the svastika posture, should recite the mantras with great auspicious resonance.
समादाय घटं पूर्णं पूर्णमेव प्रसादितम् ध्यायमानः शिवं शिष्यमाभिषिंचेत देशिकः
Taking a full and purified pot, meditating on Shiva, the teacher should anoint the disciple.
अथापनुद्य स्नानांबु परिधाय सितांबरम् आचान्तोलंकृतश्शिष्यः प्रांजलिर्मंडपं व्रजेत्
Then, after bathing and putting on white garments, the disciple, having performed purification and adorned himself, with joined palms, should approach the pavilion.
उपवेश्य यथापूर्वं तं गुरुर्दर्भविष्टरे संपूज्य मंडलं देवं करन्यासं समाचरेत्
Seating him as before on a seat of darbha grass, the teacher should worship the deity in the mandala and perform the ritual gestures with his hands.
ततस्तु भस्मना देवं ध्यायन्मनसि देशिकः समालभेत पाणिभ्यां शिशुं शिवमुदीरयेत्
Then, meditating on the deity with ashes in his mind, the teacher should touch the child with his hands and utter 'Shiva.'
अथ तस्य शिवाचार्यो दहनप्लावनादिकम् सकलीकरणं कृत्वा मातृकान्यासवर्त्मना
Then, the Shiva-teacher, having performed burning, washing, and other such acts, should accomplish the complete ritual according to the path of the matrika-nyasa.
ततः शिवासनं ध्यात्वा शिष्यमूर्ध्नि देशिकः तत्रावाह्य यथान्यायमर्चयेन्मनसा शिवम्
Then, meditating on the seat of Shiva, the teacher should invoke Shiva upon the head of the disciple and worship him there mentally according to the proper method.
प्रार्थयेत्प्रांजलिर्देवं नित्यमत्र स्थितो भव इति विज्ञाप्य तं शंभोस्तेजसा भासुरं स्मरेत्
With joined palms, he should pray to the deity, saying, 'Always remain present here,' and having thus requested, he should remember that brilliance of Shambhu.
संपूज्याथ शिवं शैवीमाज्ञां प्राप्य शिवात्मिकाम् कर्णे शिष्यस्य शनकैश्शिवमन्त्रमुदीरयेत्
Having worshipped Shiva and received the Shaiva command, which is of the nature of Shiva, he should softly utter the Shiva-mantra into the disciple's ear.
स तु बद्धांजलिः श्रुत्वा मन्त्रं तद्गतमानसः शनैस्तं व्याहरेच्छिष्यशिवाचार्यस्य शासनात्
The disciple, with joined palms, having heard the mantra and with his mind absorbed in it, should slowly recite it as instructed by the Shiva-teacher.
ततः शाक्तं च संदिश्य मन्त्रं मन्त्रविचक्षणः उच्चारयित्वा च सुखं तस्मै मंगलमादिशेत्
Then, the expert in mantras, having instructed the disciple in the Shakta mantra and pronounced it, should bless him with well-being.
