धनरूपैः पादुकाद्यैः पादसंग्रणादिभिः स्नानाभिषेकनैवेद्यैर्भोजनैश्चप्रपूजयेत्
With wealth, sandals, and other objects, by touching the feet and so forth, with bathing, anointing, offerings, and food, one should worship.
गुरुपूजैवपूजास्याच्छिवस्यपरमात्मनः गुरुशेषंतुयत्सर्वमात्मशुद्धिकरंभवेत्
Worship of the guru is indeed worship of Shiva, the Supreme Self; whatever remains of the guru becomes purifying for oneself.
गुरोःशेषःशिवोच्छिष्टंजलमन्नादिनिर्मितम् शिष्याणांशिवभक्तानांग्राह्यंभोज्यंभवेद्द्विजाः
The guru's remainder, Shiva's leavings—water, food, and so forth—should be accepted and eaten by disciples and Shiva devotees, O twice-born.
गुर्वनुज्ञाविरहितंचोरवत्सकलंभवेत् गुरोरपिविशेषज्ञंयत्नाद्गृह्णीतवैगुरुम्
Without the guru's permission, all is like that of a thief; but whatever the guru especially knows, one should carefully receive from the guru.
अज्ञानमोचनंसाध्यंविशेषज्ञोहिमोचकः आदौचविघ्नशमनंकर्तव्यंकर्मपूर्तये
The one who knows distinctions removes ignorance and accomplishes the goal; at the beginning, obstacles should be removed for the completion of the act.
निर्विघ्नेनकृतंसांगंकर्मवैसफलं भवेत् तस्मात्सकलकर्मादौविघ्नेशं पूजयेद् बुधः
When the act is performed completely and without obstacles, it yields fruit; therefore, the wise should worship the Lord of obstacles at the start of every act.
सर्वबाधानिवृत्त्यर्थंसर्वान्देवान्यजेद्बुधः ज्वरादिग्रंथिरोगाश्चबाधाह्याध्यात्मिकामता
For the removal of all afflictions, the wise should worship all the gods; for fevers, tumors, diseases, and all afflictions considered to be of the self.
पिशाचजंबुकादीनांवल्मीकाद्युद्भवेतथा अकस्मादेवगोधादिजंतूनांपतनेपिच
For troubles arising from spirits, jackals, and the like, as well as from ants and similar creatures, and also from the sudden fall of lizards and other animals.
गृहेकच्छपसर्पस्त्रीदुर्जनादर्शनेपिच वृक्षनारीगवादीनांप्रसूतिविषयेपिच
In the house, if there is a tortoise, a snake, a woman of ill repute, or a wicked person seen, or in matters concerning trees, women, cows, and the like, especially at the time of birth.
भाविदुःखंसमायातितस्मात्तेभौतिकामता अमेध्या शनिपातश्चमहामारीतथैवच
When impending sorrow appears, these are considered to be of material origin: impurity, the fall of Saturn, and great epidemics as well.
ज्वरमारीविषूचिश्चगोमारीचमसूरिका जन्मर्क्षग्रहसंक्रांतिग्रहयोगास्वराशिके
Fever, epidemic disease, contagious illness, cow-pox, smallpox, birth-star conjunctions, planetary transits, and planetary conjunctions in one's own sign.
दुःस्वप्नदर्शनाद्याश्चमतावैह्यधिदैविकाः शवचांडालपतितस्पर्शाद्येंतर्गृहेगते
Evil dreams and the like are considered divine afflictions; also, when a corpse, an outcaste, or a fallen person is touched and enters the house.
एतादृशेसमुत्पन्नेभाविदुःखस्यसूचके शांतियज्ञंतुमतिमान्कुर्यात्तद्दोषशांतये
When such signs arise, indicating impending sorrow, the wise should perform a pacifying sacrifice to quell those faults.
देवालये ऽथगोष्ठेवाचैत्येवापिगृहांगणे प्रादेशोन्नतधिष्ण्येवैद्विहस्तेयस्वलंकृते
In a temple, cowshed, stupa, or even in the courtyard of a house, on a raised and well-decorated platform, or in a clean place, it should be performed.
भारमात्रव्रीहिधान्यंप्रस्थाप्यपरिसृत्यच मध्येविलिख्यकमलंतथादिक्षुविलिख्यवै
Place only as much rice or grain as needed, and after smoothing it out, draw a lotus in the center, and likewise draw a square around it.
तंतुनावेष्टितंकुंभं नवगुग्गुलधूपितम् मध्येस्थाप्यमहाकुंभंतथादिक्ष्वपिविन्यसेत्
Wrap a pot with a thread, fumigate it with fresh guggul, and place a large pot in the center; similarly, set it at the four directions.

It may be done in one day, nine days, or even in a mandala (forty days), as is appropriate, according to time and place.
शमीहोमश्च शांत्यर्थे वृत्त्यर्थेचपलाशकम् समिदन्नाज्यकैर्द्रव्यैर्नाम्नामंत्रेण वा हुनेत्
For the sake of peace, the śamī wood should be used for the homa, and for prosperity, palāśa wood; the offerings should be made with fuel, rice, and clarified butter, using the respective names and mantras.
प्रारंभेयत्कृतंद्रव्यंतत्क्रियांतंसमाचरेत् पुण्याहंवाचयित्वांते दिनेसंप्रोक्ष्ययेज्जलैः
After beginning, one should complete the ritual with the materials prepared for it; at the end, having recited the auspicious invocation, one should sprinkle the site with water.
ब्राह्मणान्भोजयेत्पश्चाद्यावदाहुतिसंख्यया आचार्यश्चहविष्याशीत्विजश्चभवेद्बुधाः
Afterwards, one should feed Brahmins according to the number of offerings made; the teacher and the officiating priests, being learned, should also partake of the sacrificial food.
आदित्यादीन्ग्रहानिष्ट्वासर्वहोमांत एवहि ऋत्विभ्योदक्षिणांदद्यान्नवरत्नंयथा क्रमम्
Having worshipped the planets beginning with the Sun at the conclusion of all the offerings, one should give gifts to the priests in order—food and jewels as appropriate.
दशदानंततःकुर्याद्भूरिदानंततः परम् बालानामुपनीतानांगृहिणांवनिनांधनम्
Then one should make ten gifts, and then even greater gifts: to children, to those who have undergone initiation, to householders, and to forest-dwellers.
कन्यानांचसभर्त्ःणांविधवानांततःपरम् तंत्रोपकरणंसर्वमाचार्यायनिवेदयेत्
Next, to maidens, to married women, and then to widows; all the implements used there should be presented to the teacher.
उत्पातानांचमारीणांदुःखस्वामीयमःस्मृतः तस्माद्यमस्यप्रीत्यर्थंकालदानंप्रदापयेत्
The lord of death is said to be the master of calamities and diseases; therefore, to please Yama, one should give the gift called Kālada.
