Listen, and let the sacred narrative unfold. It is taught that one should not employ this powerful rite for a trivial purpose, for to aim at what is small is to diminish oneself before the greatness that lies within reach. Whether the result sought is grand or humble, the act itself—when performed—will surely bear fruit. Yet, actions undertaken should be directed toward Mahadeva, the Great Lord, for only then do they fulfill their highest potential. Thus, for results that cannot be attained by any other means—such as victory over formidable enemies or even conquering death, whether these obstacles are visible or hidden—the wise are urged to perform this rite. Even in times of dire distress—when passions rage, fear overwhelms, famine threatens, or calamities descend—this sacred ritual is to be performed for the sake of peace. What need is there for lengthy discourse? This, indeed, is the weapon imparted by Maheshvara himself to the Shaivas, so that great afflictions may be averted. Beyond this, there exists no other protection for oneself; knowing this, whoever undertakes this sacred action finds auspiciousness. If one, purified and focused, recites only the hymn for a cherished purpose, one attains a portion—one-eighth—of the desired result. Reciting it with intent, fasting on festival days or on the eighth or fourteenth lunar day, grants half the result. But whoever, intent upon their purpose, observes a vow during festival days and recites the hymn for a month, achieves the full result. Now, hear the hymn itself, O Krishna, as revealed according to the path of the five coverings—a sacred act by which yoga is accomplished. Victory, victory to you, Shambhu, sole Lord of the world, who enchants the very nature of existence! You are eternal consciousness, transcending the reach of impure worldly speech and even the paths of minds, surpassing all reality. Victory to you, whose nature is pure enjoyment, whose actions are beautiful; whose supreme power is equal to your own self; victory to you, ocean of pure qualities! Victory to you, endowed with infinite radiance, whose form is incomparable; whose greatness is unfathomable; victory to you, source of untroubled auspiciousness! Victory to you, stainless, without support; victory to you, arising without cause; victory to you, uninterrupted supreme bliss; victory to you, cause of liberation! Victory to you, of supreme sovereignty; victory to you, abode of supreme compassion; victory to you, whose independence is complete; victory to you, whose glory is unmatched! Victory to you, who envelops the great universe; victory to you, whom none envelops; victory to you, who is beyond all; victory to you, who is utterly unsurpassed! Victory to you, wondrous; victory to you, never small; victory to you, unbroken; victory to you, imperishable; victory to you, immeasurable; victory to you, beyond illusion; victory to you, beyond absence; victory to you, stainless! Great-armed, of great essence, of great qualities, of great narrative, of great strength, of great illusion, of great flavor, of great chariot! Salutations to the Supreme God, salutations to the Supreme Cause, salutations to you, O Auspicious One, O Peaceful One, salutations to you who are even more auspicious. Indeed, this entire universe, with gods and asuras alike, depends upon you. Therefore, who could possibly transgress a command established by you? This person, always taking refuge in you alone, should be favored by you and granted what he requests. Victory to you, O Ambika, Mother of the world! Victory to you, who are the essence of all creation! Victory to you, whose sovereignty is unsurpassed! Victory to you, whose form is without equal! Victory to you, who transcend speech and mind! Victory to you, who dispel the darkness of ignorance! Victory to you, who are free from birth and old age! Victory to you, who surpass even time itself! Victory to you, who dwell in manifold forms! Victory to you, beloved of the Lord of the universe! Victory to you, worshipped by all the gods! Victory to you, who expand throughout the cosmos! Victory to you, whose limbs are auspicious and divine! Victory to you, who are the lamp of auspiciousness! Victory to you, whose conduct is auspicious! Victory to you, who bestow auspiciousness! Salutations to the embodiment of the highest, most auspicious qualities! Truly, the universe arises from you and dissolves back into you. Even the Lord himself could not grant a fruit withheld by you; from birth, O Goddess of the gods, this person has sought refuge in you. Therefore, fulfill the wish of this devotee of yours: the Five-faced, Ten-armed one, pure and shining like crystal. The god whose body is formed of the syllables of Brahman, both with and without parts, established in devotion to Shiva, transcending peace, the eternal Sadaśiva—worshipped by me with devotion—may he grant me what I have requested. May the Power, called Śivā, who is the will of Sadaśiva and the mother of all worlds, grant the desired boon. The beloved sons of Shiva, the gods Heramba and Ṣaṇmukha, endowed with Shiva's power, all-knowing, and nourished by the nectar of Shiva's knowledge; content, affectionate toward each other, always honored by Shiva, and ever respected by the gods, including Brahma and the other immortals; always arising to protect all worlds, taking incarnations at will, manifesting in many forms through their own portions. These two, ever worshipped by me at the side of Shiva, may they, having considered their command, grant what I have requested. The form called Īśāna, ever like pure crystal, is the supreme manifestation of Shiva, the Supreme Self, presiding over the head. Engaged in the worship of Shiva, tranquil, transcending tranquility, established in sacrificial rites, the ultimate seed of the five-syllabled mantra, endowed with five aspects. In the first enclosure, formerly worshipped together with Shakti, may the pure, supreme Brahman, which I have sought, grant my desire. Resembling a young sun, ancient, known as Purusha, possessing the pride of the eastern face of the supreme Shiva; of tranquil nature, abiding among the Maruts, devoted to the worship of Shambhu's feet, the first among Shiva's seeds, possessing four aspects. Thus, by reciting this hymn and performing this rite as taught, one attains the blessings and protection of the Supreme, and all that is auspicious.
