அழகு, இனிமை, நல்லொழுக்கம், நல்ல நடத்தை, பெண்களில் நல்ல அதிர்ஷ்டம்—all these, பார்வதி, are her forms, placed as the foremost among all women. அவளது பக்க பார்வையாலும், கூரிய பார்வையாலும், பிரம்மா, சிவன், இந்திரன், சந்திரன், சூரியன், குபேரன், அக்கினி—all these deities attain their great powers and sovereignty. Lakshmi, Shri, Kamala, Vidya, Mother, Vishnu’s beloved, Sati; dwelling in the lotus, holding a lotus, lotus-eyed, the beauty of all worlds—these are her names. She is the ruler of all beings, eternal, patient, all-pervading, auspicious; Vishnu’s wife, great goddess, daughter of the milk ocean, Rama. She is endless, mother of the worlds, earth, dark-hued, giver of all happiness; also Rukmini and Sita, embodiment of all the Vedas, auspicious. Sati, Sarasvati, Gauri, Shanti, Svaha, Svadha, Rati; Narayani, of noble stature, inseparable from Vishnu—these are her forms. Whoever rises in the morning and recites these sacred names attains great prosperity, wealth, grain, and freedom from impurity. She is golden-hued, deer-like, adorned with garlands of gold and silver; radiant as the moon, Lakshmi made of gold, never departing from Vishnu. Fragrant, invincible, ever-nourishing, bestower of action; ruler of all beings—her, I invoke here as Shri. Thus, in the Rig Veda, the great goddess is praised; she granted all prosperity and happiness to Shiva and the celestial beings. She is the ruler of this world, the eternal wife of Vishnu; everything depends on her glance, the entire world, both immobile and mobile. The goddess dwells on Vishnu’s chest like brilliance in fire; Vishnu is the lord of all, imperishable and immutable. He is Narayana, possessed of fortune, ocean of affection and virtues; master, gentle, blessed, all-knowing, endowed with all powers. He is always fulfilled in desire, naturally a friend and companion; ocean of nectar-like compassion, refuge for all embodied beings. He gives happiness in heaven and liberation, source of compassion for devotees; to that glorious Vishnu, I offer all service. In every place, time, and condition, all belong to the Lord of the Lotus; thus, having realized his nature, one attains the happiness of service. Thus understanding the meaning of the mantra, one should practice devotion properly; this entire world, both immobile and mobile, is his servant. Narayana is the glorious master, lord of the worlds; mother, father, son, kin, abode, refuge, and goal. The blessed Lord of Shri, endowed with auspicious qualities, fulfiller of all desires; he who is called ‘without qualities’ in the scriptures, lord of the world. Inferiority is said to be due to association with natural, defective qualities; where false worldliness is spoken of in statements accessible to Vedanta. All that is seen here is said to be impermanent; even the natural form of the cosmic egg is subject to destruction. Indeed, the impermanence of natural forms is thus declared; O great goddess, this concerns the origin of Hari from Prakriti. For the sake of play, the Lord of gods, Vishnu, who is the master of divine sport, created the worlds with four, then ten, oceans and islands. With four kinds of beings and lofty mountains, this beautiful, complete cosmic egg arises from Prakriti. Endowed with ten plus qualities and covered by seven sheaths, time revolves within it in the forms of kala, kashtha, and so on. By time alone, the creation, maintenance, and dissolution of the world occur; a day of Brahma is a thousand cycles of four yugas. For that many nights and years is the lifespan of Brahma, born from the unmanifest; when Brahma’s end arrives, all is destroyed. The worlds within the cosmic egg are burned by the fire of time; all beings, likewise, are absorbed into the Prakriti of Vishnu. The elements forming the coverings of the egg dissolve into Prakriti; that Prakriti, sheltered by Hari, is the support of all worlds. By her, the Blessed Lord always brings about the creation and dissolution of the world; for the sake of play, the world-illusion was created by the Lord of gods. Ignorance, Prakriti, and Maya—always composed of the three gunas—she is the eternal cause of creation, maintenance, and dissolution. Yoganidra, the great illusion, Prakriti endowed with the three gunas, the unmanifest and the primal matter, belong to Vishnu, the master of divine play. The creation and dissolution of the world always arise from Prakriti; the abode of countless Prakritis is dense, unfading darkness. Above, at the boundary, is Viraja, endless and eternal; by her, the entire world is upheld in gross and subtle states. In her, expansion and contraction are the states in which creation and dissolution are remembered; thus, all beings are contained within Prakriti. Then, all this becomes void, absorbed into the great Prakriti; thus is the supreme form of the glory of Prakriti.
