वैकुण्ठायेति वैकुण्ठमुरः श्रीवत्सधारिणे शङ्खिने गदिने चैव चक्रिणे वरदाय वै
Saying 'To Vaikuntha,' worship Vaikuntha's chest, the bearer of the Srivatsa mark; to the wielder of the conch, the mace, the discus, and the bestower of boons.
सर्वं नारायणन्त्वेवं सम्पूज्यावाहनक्रमात् दामोदरायेत्युदरं कटिं पञ्चजनाय वै
In this way, worship Narayana in full, following the order of invocation: to Damodara, the belly; to Panchajanya, the waist.
ऊरूसौभाग्यनाथाय जानुनी भूतधारिणे नमो नीलाय वै जङ्घे पादौ विश्वभुजे पुनः
To the Lord of Fortune, the thighs; to the bearer of beings, the knees; to the dark one, the shanks; and again, to the all-supporting one, the feet.
नमो देव्यै नमः शांत्यै नमो लक्ष्म्यै नमः श्रियै नमस्तुष्ट्यै नमः पुष्ट्यै धृत्यै व्युष्ट्यै नमो नमः
Obeisance to the goddess, to peace, to Lakshmi, to prosperity, to contentment, to nourishment, to steadfastness, and to fulfillment—again and again, obeisance.
नमो विहङ्गनाथाय वायुवेगाय पक्षिणे विषप्रमथनायेति गरुडं चाभिपूजयेत्
Homage to the lord of birds, the swift-winged one, the bird who subdues poison—thus, one should duly worship Garuḍa.
एवं सम्पूज्य गोविन्दमुमापतिविनायकौ गन्धैर्माल्यैस्तथा धूपैर्भक्ष्यैर्नानाविधैरपि
In this way, having worshipped Govinda, Umāpati, and Vināyaka with fragrances, garlands, incense, and various kinds of food offerings—
गव्येन पयसा सिक्तां कृसरामथ पायसम् सर्पिषा सह भुक्त्वा तु गत्वा स्थानांतरं पुनः
Having eaten rice cooked with milk from a cow, or sweet rice pudding mixed with ghee, then, after going to another place—
नैयग्रोधं दन्तकाष्ठमथवा खादिरं बुधः गृहीत्वा धावयेद्दन्तानाचान्तः प्रागुदङ्मुखः
The wise one should take a twig of fig, or else khadira wood, and, facing east or north, clean his teeth after rinsing his mouth.
ब्रूयात्सायन्तनीं कृत्वा सन्ध्यामस्तमिते रवौ नमो नारायणायेति त्वामहं शरणं गतः
Having performed the evening twilight ritual at sunset, one should say: 'Homage to Nārāyaṇa; I have taken refuge in you.'
एकादश्यां निराहारः समभ्यर्च्य च केशवम् तां रात्रिं सकलां स्थित्वा शेषपर्यंकशायिनम्
On the eleventh day, fasting and having worshipped Keśava, one should remain awake the whole night, lying on the ground or on a simple bed.
सर्पिषा विश्वदहनं हुत्वा ब्राह्मणपुङ्गवैः सहैव पुण्डरीकाक्षं द्वादश्यां क्षीरभोजनम्
Having offered ghee into the universal fire along with eminent Brāhmaṇas, on the twelfth day one should eat food prepared with milk, together with worship of Puṇḍarīkākṣa.
करिष्यामि यथात्मानं निर्विघ्नेनास्तु तच्च मे एवमुक्त्वा स्वपेद्भूमावितिहासकथां पुनः
Saying, 'I will perform this as best I can; may it be without obstacles for me,' thus spoken, one should sleep on the ground, again listening to stories of ancient times.
श्रुत्वा प्रभाते सञ्जाते नदीं गत्वा विशाम्पते स्नानं कृत्वा मुदा तद्वत्पाषण्डानभिवर्जयेत्
Hearing this, at daybreak, O lord of men, one should go to the river, bathe joyfully as before, and avoid heretics.
उपास्य सन्ध्यां विधिवत्कृत्वा च पितृतर्पणम् प्रणम्य च हृषीकेशं शेषपर्यङ्कशायिनम्
Having properly performed the twilight worship and the offering to the ancestors, and having bowed to Hṛṣīkeśa, who reclines on the serpent-bed—
गृहस्य पुरतो भक्त्या मण्डपं कारयेद्बुधः चतुर्हस्तां शुभां कुर्याद्वेदीमरिनिषूदन
The wise one should, with devotion, construct a pavilion in front of the house, four cubits in size, and make an auspicious altar, O destroyer of enemies.
चतुर्हस्तप्रमाणं तु विन्यसेत्तत्र तोरणम् मध्ये च कलशं तत्र माषमात्रेण सञ्युतम्
He should place a gateway there, measuring four cubits, and in the center, a pot filled with a measure of black gram.
छिद्रेण जलसम्पूर्णमधः कृष्णाजिने स्थितः तस्य धारां च शिरसा धारयेत्सकलां निशाम्
Through a hole, filled with water, set upon a black antelope skin below, one should let the stream fall upon one's head for the entire night.
धाराभिर्भूरिभिर्भूरि फलं वेदविदो विदुः यस्मात्तस्मात्कुरुश्रेष्ठ कारयेत्प्रयतो द्विजः
Those learned in the Vedas know that the more streams there are, the greater the fruit; therefore, O best of the Kurus, a devoted Brāhmaṇa should arrange it.
दक्षिणे चार्धचन्द्रं तु पश्चिमे वर्तुलं तथा अश्वत्थपत्राकारं च उत्तरेण तु कारयेत्
On the south, he should make a half-moon shape; on the west, a circle; and on the north, a shape like a peepal leaf.
मध्ये तु पद्माकारं च कारयेद्वैष्णवो द्विजः पूर्वतो वेदिकां स्थो न स्थो न याम्ये च कल्पयेत्
In the center, a Vaiṣṇava Brāhmaṇa should make a lotus shape; on the east, he should not construct an altar, nor on the southern side.
पानीयधारां शिरसि धारयेद्विष्णुतत्परः द्वितीया वेदी देवस्य तत्र पद्मं सकर्णिकम्
Absorbed in Viṣṇu, he should let the stream of water fall on his head; on the second altar for the deity, there should be a lotus with a pericarp.
तस्य मध्ये स्थितं देवं कुर्याद्वै पुरुषोत्तमम् हस्तमात्रं च तत्कुण्डं कृत्वा तत्र त्रिमेखलम्४५ योनिवक्त्रं ततस्तस्मिन्ब्राह्मणैर्यवसर्पिषी तिलाञ्श्च विष्णुदेवत्यैर्मंत्रैरेवानले हुनेत्
In the center of that, he should establish the supreme person, making the altar the size of a hand, and there, with three enclosures and a yoni-shaped mouth, Brāhmaṇas should offer barley and ghee, and sesame with mantras dedicated to Viṣṇu into the fire.
कृत्वा तु वैष्णवं सम्यग्यागं तत्र प्रकल्पयेत् आज्यधारा मध्यमे तु कुंडे दद्यात्तु यत्नतः
Having performed the Vaiṣṇava sacrifice properly, one should then arrange the offering; with care, one should pour a continuous stream of ghee into the center of the fire-pit.
क्षीरधारां देवदेवे वारिधारात्मनोपरि निष्पावार्धप्रमाणां वै धारामाज्यस्य पातयेत्
A stream of milk should be poured over the Lord of gods, upon the image representing the water-essence, and a stream of ghee, measuring half a niṣpāva, should be poured as well.
स्वेच्छया क्षीरजलयोरविच्छिन्नां च शर्वरीं जलकुम्भान्महावीर्य स्थापयित्वा त्रयोदश
According to one's wish, an unbroken stream of milk and water should be maintained throughout the night; after placing thirteen water-jars of great potency,
भक्ष्यैर्नानाविधैर्युक्तान्सितवस्त्रैरलङ्कृतान् प्रतानौदुम्बरैः पात्रैः पञ्चरत्नसमन्वितैः।1.23.
Furnished with various kinds of food, adorned with white cloths, and set on platforms with udumbara wood vessels, accompanied by the five gems.
चतुर्भिर्बह्वृचैर्होमः कार्यस्तत्र उदङ्मुखैः रुद्रजाप्यश्चतुर्भिश्च यजुर्वेदपरायणैः
The fire-offering should be performed there with four Bahvṛca priests facing north, and the recitation to Rudra by four devoted to the Yajur Veda.
वैष्णवानि च सामानि चतुर्भिः सामवेदिभिः एवं द्वादश वै विप्रान्वस्त्रमाल्यानुलेपनैः
And the Vaiṣṇava Sāman hymns by four Sāma Veda experts; thus, O brāhmaṇa, twelve priests should be honored with garments, garlands, and ointments.
पूजयेदङ्गुलीयैश्च कटकैर्हेमसूत्रकैः वासोभिः शयनीयैश्च वित्तशाठ्यविवर्जितः
One should worship them with finger-rings, bracelets, and gold-threaded ornaments, with garments and bedding, free from any miserliness.
एवं क्षपातिवाह्या वै गीतमङ्गलनिःस्वनैः उपाध्यायस्य च पुनर्द्विगुणं सर्वमेव तु
Thus, the night should be passed with auspicious songs and music; and for the preceptor, everything should be given in double measure.
