If there is anything else you desire, O king, ask me—that which delivers from the ocean of worldly existence.
Tell me of some vow that grants the fruits of heaven and health; I will explain the solar dharma called the Auspicious Seventh.
One should observe the Viśoka Saptamī, likewise the Phala Saptamī on the third day, the Sugar Saptamī, and also the Lotus Saptamī.
The Mandāra Saptamī, the Sixth Saptamī, and the Auspicious Saptamī—all these are said to yield holy fruits and are worshipped by gods and sages.
I will explain the procedure for these, properly and in order; when the seventh lunar day of the bright fortnight falls on the day of the sun.
That day is called Auspicious and also known as Victorious; in the morning, one should bathe in a river with cow’s milk.
Wearing white garments, one should arrange a lotus with unbroken rice grains, placing the petal in the center facing east, and likewise a round pericarp.
With flowers and unbroken rice grains, one should place the Lord of the gods all around in order; to the east, as Tapanā, and then as Mārtaṇḍa.
In the southeast, offer to Divākara; in the southwest, to Vidhātri; in the west, to Varuṇa; to Bhāskara and also to Anila.
In the northeast, to Vikartana; to Deva in the eighth petal; at the beginning, end, and center, let it be for the Supreme Self.
Having worshipped with these mantras, ending with salutations, with white garments, fruits, edibles, incense, garlands, and ointments,
One should worship with devotion on the altar, with jaggery and salt; then, reciting the Vyāhṛti mantra, release the foremost twice-born.
According to one's ability, offer oblations with devotion, using jaggery, milk, ghee, and so forth; present sesame, gold, and other gifts to the brāhmaṇa.
Thus, having observed the discipline and slept, rising in the morning, the man, after bathing and reciting, together with the brāhmaṇas, prepares ghee-rice pudding.
Having eaten, to a knower of the Vedas, who is free from the Vaiḍāla vow, offer a vessel of ghee with gold and a water pot.
May the blessed Supreme Self, the Sun, be pleased here; by this procedure, one should perform everything month by month.
Then, in the thirteenth month, one should give thirteen cows, adorned with garments and ornaments, with golden horns and yielding milk.
Even one should be given by one lacking wealth, without envy; one should not act with deceit regarding wealth, for from delusion one falls down.
Whoever performs the auspicious Saptamī by this procedure is freed from all sins and is honored in the world of the Sun.
Here, endless life, health, and prosperity arise; this removes all sins and is worshipped by all the gods.
The auspicious Saptamī always pacifies all evils; whoever observes this Saptamī, which grants endless fruits,
Whoever hears or recites it is freed from sins; likewise, O best of kings, I will describe the Viśoka Saptamī.
By observing which, a man never experiences sorrow here; in Māgha, having bathed with black sesame on the fifth day of the bright fortnight,
Having eaten, with rice gruel, after brushing the teeth, having observed the vow of fasting, let the celibate sleep at night.
Then, rising at dawn, pure after bathing and reciting, having made a golden lotus, one should worship the Sun.
With a red oleander and a pair of red garments; just as you, O Sun, always make the world free from sorrow.
In this way, may I be free from sorrow, may I have devotion to you in every birth. Thus, on the sixth day, one should worship the twice-born with devotion.
Having personally sipped cow urine, having risen and performed daily rites, one should carefully worship the Brahmins, providing a vessel of jaggery.
One should offer to the Brahmin a pair of good garments and a lotus; having eaten food without oil and salt, on the seventh day, one should observe silence.
After that, one desiring prosperity should listen to the Purāṇas; this procedure should be followed in both fortnights.
