Having recited me with devotion, the foremost of twice-born will attain success; by my recitation, you all will have preeminence among all.
Even a self-restrained Brahmin who knows only the essence of the Gāyatrī is superior to an unrestrained knower of the four Vedas who eats everything and sells everything.
Because among Brahmins, a curse was given through Sāvitrī, whatever is given or offered here becomes inexhaustible in its effect.
Therefore, I have granted this boon to you, O best of twice-born: Brahmins devoted to Agnihotra, who give offerings at the three times.
They will go to heaven along with twenty-one generations of their lineage; in this way, as with Indra, Viṣṇu, Rudra, and Agni.
The supreme boon of Gāyatrī was given by Brahmā to the Brahmins; having given it at that Puṣkara, she became one who stands by Brahmā's side.
At that time, the reason for Lakṣmī's curse was told by the celestial bards; and the curses of all young women were also separately recounted.
And Gāyatrī, beloved of Brahmā, gave a boon to Lakṣmī: always making all who are not reviled beautiful and wealthy.
You will shine, without doubt, bringing joy to all; all those whom you look upon, O daughter, will partake of merit.
But those whom you abandon will all partake of suffering; their lineage, family, conduct, and dharma, O beautiful-faced one—
In the assembly, they will appear splendid and be seen by kings; and the best of twice-born will fulfill their requests.
They will show nobility among them; you are to us like a brother, father, teacher, and certainly a kinsman—there is no doubt. I could not live without you.
When I see you, my gaze becomes auspicious and my mind is pleased; I speak the truth, the truth, for this reason.
Those who are seen by your gaze with such words as these will be virtuous and will hear things that bring joy to people.
Having attained the position of Indra, Nahuṣa will see you and beg; but by your gaze, his sin will be destroyed, surely by Agastya's words.
Having attained the state of a serpent, he will then pray to him; 'Through pride I am ruined—be my refuge, O sage.'
By those words, the blessed sage will, feeling compassion in his mind, speak this statement to that king.
A king will be born in your lineage, a delight to your family; seeing him in the form of a serpent, he will indeed break your curse.
Then, giving up your serpent form, you will ascend again to heaven; through the Ashvamedha sacrifice performed by your husband, you will return to the celestial realm together.
By the boon I grant you, O fair-eyed one, you shall attain this; Pulastya said: At that time, all the wives of the gods, addressed with satisfaction,
Even for those deprived of children, there will be no sorrow; and Gauri, awakened by Gayatri at that moment,
Was gladdened with contentment, and, being noble-minded, granted boons; desiring the completion of that sacrifice, the beloved of Brahma,
Seeing Gayatri, the mother of the Vedas, as the granter of boons in this way, Rudra then bowed down and offered this praise.
Rudra said: O mother of the Vedas, purified by the eight syllables, I bow to you; O Gayatri, crosser of difficulties, speech, and also sevenfold in form,
All hymns of praise, all songs, and likewise all syllables and their characteristics,
All commentaries and treatises, and whatever other disciplines there are, and all syllables as well—O goddess, I bow to you.
You are white, of a radiant white form, with a face like the moon; bearing broad arms soft as the core of a plantain stem,
Holding a deer’s horn and a spotless lotus in your hand, clad in a fine silk garment with a red upper cloth,
Adorned on your breast with a necklace shining like moonbeams, beautifully decorated with divine earrings in both ears,
With a face rivaling the moon’s radiance, you shine; adorned with a most pure crown and a splendid hair arrangement,
