Then Brahmā, Kapila, the supreme lord, the gods, the seven sages, and the illustrious Tryambaka,
Sanatkumāra, the great-souled Manu, the blessed lord of creatures, and the ancient gods, all performed the sacrifice, their brilliance equal to blazing Vaiśvānara fire.
Long ago, in the hollow of the lotus where the lotus-born one slept, there arose the gods and the hosts of seers.
This manifestation, called Pauṣkaraka, of the great-souled one, is recounted as ancient, where the Veda and Smṛti are perfectly established.
The boar, the mouth of the Veda, manifested from Brahmā; the best of the gods, assuming the form of a boar, appeared to assist him.
Having made the sacred place Kokāmukha vast in Puṣkara, he, with Veda as his feet, the sacrificial post as his tusk, the ritual as his hand, and the altar as his mouth, stood forth.
He whose tongue is fire, whose hair is darbha grass, whose head is Brahman, who is of great austerity, whose eyes are day and night, who is divine, whose limbs are the Vedas, adorned with the sound of the scriptures—
Whose nose is clarified butter, whose beak is a sacrificial ladle, whose voice resounds with the chant of the Sāma, who is great, filled with truth and righteousness, glorious, honored for his deeds and valor—
Whose nails are expiation, steadfast, whose knees are sacrificial animals, whose form is that of a sacrifice, whose intestines are the Udgātṛ priests, whose mark is the fire-offering, who is the fruit, seed, and great herb—
Whose inner self is wind, whose mantras are firm, whose buttocks are water, whose blood is soma, whose shoulders are the Vedas, whose scent is oblation, who surpasses all in offering to gods and ancestors—
Whose body is the eastern altar, radiant, worshipped with various initiations, whose heart is the south, who is a yogi, who is the embodiment of the great sacrifice, who is great—
Who is splendid in the preliminary rites, adorned with the turns of the Pravargya vessel, accompanied by his shadow-wife, towering like a jeweled peak—
He whose soul is for the welfare of all worlds, who, with his tusk, lifted up the earth, and then, having brought her to her proper place, became the supporter of the earth—
Then Hari, having supported the earth, attained liberation; thus, by the primeval Boar, seeking the welfare of Brahman, the earth was upheld—
Long ago, the earth, submerged in the ocean, was lifted up in the lotus; he, surrounded by tranquility and self-control, stood in the divine Kokāmukha—
Along with the Ādityas, Vasus, Sādhyas, Maruts, and other gods, with Rudras, universal helpers, Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, and Kinnaras—
With the directions and intermediate directions, with the earth, rivers, and oceans, Brahmā, glorious, the teacher of all moving and unmoving beings, foremost knower of Brahman—
Spoke these words: 'The Kokāmukha tīrtha must always be preserved by you, O Lord; it must be kept secret and protected during the sacrifice here.'
'So I shall do, O Blessed One,' Brahmā then replied; and again Brahmā spoke to Viṣṇu, the god standing before him—
'You are indeed my supreme god, you are indeed my supreme teacher, you are indeed my supreme abode, O best of the gods, greater than Indra and the others.'
'O you with eyes like fully blossomed, spotless lotuses, destroyer of the enemy's host, just as my sacrifice destroys the Dānavas, so too must you act.'
'So must you arrange, for one who bows to you; I bow to you.' Viṣṇu said: 'Abandon fear, O Lord of gods; I will bring about the destruction of the Dānavas.'
'And those who at the end are obstructors, the Yātudhānas and Asuras, I will slay them all; be at ease, Grandfather.'
Having spoken thus, he stood there, ready to help at the proper moment; and auspicious winds blew, and the ten directions became clear.
The radiant lights and the moon performed circumambulation; the planets did not cause any affliction, and even the oceans became tranquil.
The earth was free from dust, the waters brought delight to all, the rivers followed their natural course, and the seas were not agitated.
The senses of people, both outward and inward, were auspicious; the great sages, free from sorrow, recited the Vedas aloud.
In that sacrifice, the fires were auspicious during the offering of oblations; people, established in righteous conduct and virtue, were joyful in heart.
Hearing the words about the destruction of enemies by Viṣṇu, who is true to his promise, the gods then arrived together with the Dānavas and Rākṣasas.
All the spirits, ghosts, and piśācas came there in order; also Gandharvas, Apsarases, Nāgas, and hosts of Vidyādharas.
