"There, honored by the multitude of trees, fragrant with the scent of flowers, the blessed one accepted that forest, with its beasts and birds."
"For the welfare of the world, he chose to dwell there; that sacred place is called Puṣkara, and the field is known as Vṛṣabha."
"It was established by the blessed one, benefactor of the worlds; go there to Brahmā, together with me, and propitiate him."
"When worshipped, the blessed one will grant boons, one after another." Having spoken thus, the blessed Viṣṇu, with those gods and Dānavas—
Went to that part of the forest where the lotus-born resides; delighted, with joyful hearts, accompanied by the calls of cuckoos.
Entering Brahmā's forest, splendid with heaps of bright flowers, all the gods arrived at that woodland, akin to Nandana.
At that time, the forest, rich with lotuses and wildflowers, appeared splendid and strong; then the gods entered the woodland, adorned with every kind of blossom.
Here are the gods, so the gods wandered about, eager to see; all the gods, along with Indra, began to hunt there.
They did not see the end of that wondrous forest, though swift; as they searched, the god Vayu was perceived by the deities.
He spoke to them: 'You will not see Brahma without austerity.' Then, weary from searching, they remained on the mountain slope.
Again and again, in the south and north and in between, Vayu, holding them in his heart, spoke to them once more.
There are three methods for seeing Virinchi (Brahma) at all times: it is said to be through faith, knowledge, austerity, and yoga.
Yogis see the deity in both manifest and unmanifest forms; ascetics see the manifest, while the wise see the supreme unmanifest.
When knowledge arises, one with weak faith does not see; but yogis swiftly see Brahma through supreme devotion.
He should be seen as changeless, the lord of Pradhana and Purusha; those always devoted, by action, mind, and speech, approach the ancestor (Brahma).
Practice austerity, blessings to you, devoted to worshipping Brahma; for those who have undertaken the Brahminical initiation and are devoted among the twice-born.
He knows at all times; I must grant a vision; hearing Vayu's words and understanding their benefit,
Their minds filled with Brahma's desire, they then spoke to the lord of speech: 'Grant us Brahminical initiation, for we are wise and learned.'
Desiring to initiate them, the guru quickly gave the gods Brahma's initiation, according to the procedure prescribed in the Vedas.
With humble attire and bowed, they became disciples; having received Brahma's grace, they attained the knowledge called Paushkara.
The excellent priest, Dhiṣaṇa, performed the sacrifice according to the rite; making a lotus altar rich with lotus stalks, as prescribed for the lotus initiation.
The sage, prompted by the gods' wish, accepted them; he gave to those discerning ones the knowledge according to the Vedic instructions.
Brhaspati, noble-minded, abandoned astonishment at the initiation; preparing a single fire, the great soul for the dwellers of heaven,
Angiras, pleased, gave them the recitation prescribed in the Vedas: the Trisuparna, Trimadhu, and the purifying Pavamani hymns.
He, of noble intellect, taught them all the recitations and related practices; the bath accompanied by the recitation 'āpo hiṣṭha' is known as the Brahma bath.
It destroys sin, pacifies the wicked, increases nourishment, prosperity, and strength; it grants success, fame, and removes the impurities of the Kali age.
Therefore, one should perform the Brahma bath with all effort, as do those who are silent, self-restrained, initiated, and have subdued their senses.
All carry water pots, wear loose garments and rosaries, are staff-bearers, clad in bark cloth, and adorned with matted hair.
Engaged in the practice of bathing, seated in proper posture, devoted to meditation with effort, fixing their minds on Brahman, and desiring regulated food.
Observing silence, avoiding sight, speech, contact, and meditation on other things, thus all the vow-holders perform bathing three times a day.
